In the white collar world, having to be accessible 24/7 with invention of computers and cell phones doesn’t help.

Because they have forsaken traditional treatments in exchange for affirmation therapy

We stopped letting kids sniff glue. The glue was keeping this country together.

On a serious note,
I'm not sure if half of this topic is related to just generalized depression or actual mental health issues like BPD, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder (I've got Bipolar 1, for example).
Manic episodes, insomnia lasting for days, no control over my emotions, irrational suicidal idealization are all symptoms that i've lived with since being diagnosed 12 years ago.. luckily circumvented with medication and realizing my triggers/avoiding them/working on myself. I now make around 6 figures with a stable career, wife (no pics), and family.
I think most general depression is absolute bullshite, but there are legit mental health issues that need to be addressed in the country and no amount of "hard labor", disconnection from the internet, or "getting sunlight" will fix that.

Sissy generation that’s too concerned with the individual self.

too much time to think about it

I would like to say social media, but keeping up with the Jones has been around for a very long time.
Things that were never acceptable before are slightly being acceptable now and we hear of it more.

FWIW - not political, but parts may sound so
#1 Family, Friends, and Community - When I was a young man we had a kid on our street that would currently be labeled autism. He was not a bad kid but he was freakishly strong and probably be ridiculed or bullied today. Instead everybody on the street tried to help when they could and left alone when they could not.
#2 Booze & Dope - When my old man was young he would go to the corner grocer for "a dope" which was the name for a Coke as at the time, cocaine was an ingredient. As for Booze, everybody drank during Prohibition and drank more after it was over. Today we call this "self - medicating"
#3 Long term locked care facilities - Prior to 1980 we had long term locked facilities for those in society who could not function on their own. Regan became POTUS and shut down these facilities to save money. These folks became the current homeless folks we see today. As for saving money, the facilities may be gone and their associated costs but treating mental health by police is not only totally ineffective, but the cost of mental health care by police is about 8 times the cost of the original facilities. so much for saving money (Regan was an actor and played well with the public but he was an idiot). I have dear friends who are die hard Republican judges who also think Regan was a moron on this policy as they have actually had to deal with the fallout.

Not using shame as the communal agreement to deter bad behavior as we should.

Do you honestly not know how to spell President Reagan's name?
Posted on 3/15/23 at 4:09 pm to Cheese Grits
Speaking of Reagan and the homeless, I remember the permanent lie of the 80's that there were "3,000,000" homeless. The estimates NOW are only 600 to 700 thousand and the country's population is 30 to 40% larger.
amazing that that massive decade long lie has been completely buried

I've often thought about this. I think, mental-health wise, I would be much happier if I had a blue collar job like a server or bartender.
Would still be talking/interacting with people like in my current role, but would be on my feet all day (very important to me), would probably have colleagues that I related to more, and I would feel like I'm out of the corporate rat race. I wouldn't be staring at technology all day.
If server jobs paid close to what my current job does, I would quit it in a heartbeat to go do something like that.

Drugs and the internet.

He would be over 100 if he were still alive if that helps.

The original 19th century Coca-Cola formula had some residual amount of cocaine precursor in it, but that amount was drastically reduced to mere traces by the early 1900s and entirely eliminated by 1930.

Drugs, Internet, video games, movies, society, disintegration of the family
Good question I wish I had an answer
