Stayed at the Belmont many times as a kid. The LHSAA use to hold their summer convention/Coaches Clinic there for a few years straight. I remember it being a ghost town minus the coaches and their families. As a kid it felt like it was so big and i use to explore the whole property on my skateboard.

I remember in the lobby of the Great Hall, they had a Billy Cannon mural of him in Tiger Stadium.

I remember my parents taking me to fun fair park on time while we were there.

Went to the real Superstore, put a quarter in the shopping cart....

I also remember going to the Bon Marche mall as a kid too. Went back there years later when I was a young adult and they turned part of it into a big data center. Not sure if that is even still there.

My sister and I were talking about Fun Fair Park yesterday and the old Tilt-a-Whirl ride.

That was a fun place as a kid.

I had tons of birthday parties there with the little private rooms under the covered part.

I was just about to add that to my post. The little private rooms, the little cars you could ride, the double Ferris wheel. It was a great experience back then.

I also had a birthday at a McDonalds and that was fun too. I don’t ever hear of people doing that anymore.

Same. This thread makes me smile but also feel a bit sad thinking how different BR used to be. Growing up in the 80s, riding my bike with my brother and our friends exploring areas that back then were perfectly safe. Going to a baseball card shop in the longbow strip center and collecting those mini pro baseball batting helmets that’d you’d get at Kmart with your slushy

Now all that is empty and ghetto.

It’s truly crazy to think Florida Blvd down to Cortana and beyond was the main shopping area. We’d go to Cortana and even occasionally to Bon Marche with zero fear of crime

Now I don’t want to be in that area during broad daylight let alone at night

Eta: Goony golf and go karts would be another great memory

We used to call the Broadmoor Theater to listen to the guy narrate the showing times. It was hilarious

Yeah I went to plenty of those too. I don't think many of them have the little play places anymore. Probably got sued when little Timmy got his head stuck in the hamburgler

How has nobody mentioned the old chimp in the tiny cage at Fun Fair, in the sweltering heat? They would feed it soft serve ice cream cones and people would throw it lit cigs. It would eat ice cream and smoke

So interesting how when the rides were disassembled and moved to blue bayou, the Wild Mouse stayed in place because it was deemed too antiquated for modern day. But then it made the mystique grow even more as the weeds grew up thru it and all the tall tales about it grew as well. The young kids would have their birthday parties under the covered section and the parents would look over there and tell them stories about it. Awesome stuff.
