My God, that's such an awful take. You should be ashamed.

So I’m comparing him to LSUs all time greatest overall power and hits guy and it is an awful take.

Furniss had the advantage of the hot bats but raised seamed balls which were not hot like the transition to the flat seamed minor league balls they play with today. Crews is hitting with bats that are not comparable to Furniss BUT do have action more like Walker’s thus overall the advantage Crews has between the balls and bats combined is more closely to Furniss.

Let me remind you that Furniss was the second player to have his number retired AND tenth overall athlete in LSU HISTORY.

Don’t you think this is a fair comparison? Read this and tell me that Crews isn’t more closely compared to Furniss…

That is NOT a bad thing. Had his several minor league coaches hadn’t screwed up his swing, I bet he wouldn’t have been a dr when he became one.
There are several articles on him trying to be “coachable” and he is not letting his son go through that. One reason why his son is at Ole Miss is so he didn’t have to look at his number being retired every day and he trusts Bianco.

Furniss sought to improve his physical shape for the 1998 season,[6] and after losing weight, Furniss batted .403 average in 1998 with 27 doubles, three triples, 28 home runs, 85 runs scored, and 76 RBIs. He also set a career-high with 72 walks and a career-low in strikeouts with 40.[4] He earned first-team All-America and All-SEC honors,[4][8] and won the Dick Howser Trophy as the top collegiate baseball player.[9]

If Crews does this, I think he will end up with his number retired regardless of winning at a title or not.

Told a buddy today that it almost doesn’t even feel impressive anymore. He’s so good it just feels expected.

That’s not fair to him by any means because holy shite what he’s doing is unreal but it’s just a testament to how damn good he is.

Looking back, it's more of a statistical anomaly that Rhymes only slugged .530 while hitting .431 for a season than the fact that he hit .431.

What are crew's stats the last 2 sec seasons? If Anything you look at those stats against other greats and use that info. Pre-conference just pads actual "real comp".

Crews is in a long line of great lsu players but he aint the goat.

You are a saying that Furniss’ actual bat was hotter than Walker’s actual bat.

Hmmmmm....

Eddy Furniss never used the Easton Redline bats. He said they were too light.

Best player in America. Starting to pickup the HRs again too sitting at 5. Realistically he is going to likely have a batting average of .375 and have 20 HRs with 75 RBI at the end of the regular season. Which is unreal.

5-tool player all the way. The ball looks like a beach ball to him right now and he is squaring it up every AB.
He is also playing OUTSTANDING D in CF. Almost like it is a personnel affront if anything hits the ground around him.
Leadership from the front & leadership by example.

Crews has 2 seasons against SEC pitching and about to start on his 3rd. You can compare the bats and baseballs used when Crews, Furniss, and Walker each played, but there's no comparison in the pitching that each faced.

The pitching in the SEC is significantly greater now than in any time in it's history.

His average SEC only stats are like .340 BA, 35 RBI, 15 HR. in 30 games.

This is against MUCH better pitching than anyone faced 20 years ago. Crews is the most talented player LSU has ever had. The only things holding him back from being considered the "goat" are the fact that he 1. won't play 4 years and didn't have hot bats (stats will be lower than the likes of Furniss and Brandon Larson) 2. the talent he's playing against is at an all time high and 3. he doesn't have a ring (yet).

He's going to be a 3 time All-American and potentially 2 time SEC player of the year, unless someone like Caglianone from Florida did enough stat padding of the power numbers against OOC competition.

That is absurd and it needs to be talked about more.

Also 17 BB 3 HBP

So 71 PAs .648 OB% .922 slg%

26 hits 28 runs scored

So Walker used a bat that wasn’t introduced until 1997 when he was drafted 3 years before???

Yeah and he isn’t hitting .400 like Walker averaged for his career YET. 40-50 points higher average is a lot in baseball. Hell, Furniss those last 3 years was about at .380 or so.

What NONE of the people on here actually should have made the argument about Crews being better overall because of how much better he is defensively than the other 2.
That is what separates the 3. Crews is a true 5 tool player.

I’m not trying to overreact but i think crews ends the regular season above .400 comfortably. If you just watch his approach and the way he’s hitting this year, it is much improved from the last 2 years which is crazy because of how he good he was. I agree with the homers and RBIs though. Every ball he hits is 105 mph line drive this year

The flat seam balls alone changed the game ie upped HRs. The drop and major changes to bat design wasn’t until 1994 when they went to the double barreled thin aluminum that cause the change. Walker did not play with those bats in college. He didn’t hit the flat seamed balls which we know changed the game.

We also know that the NCAA testing is shoddy at best today. They look for a sticker but even the weather / temperature changes the pressure in the bat and can make it illegal. (Think Tennessee (and TAMU) 2021).
The shaving and other things such as aging of bats during the season cause them to have more whip.

You sound like Biden trying to tell us that gas prices are down. Yeah, the bats and balls are better than 2012 but they still don't compare to the bats of the 90's.

If you also want to continue on the era comparison, The quality of college baseball was far lower when Walker played. So the quality of pitching he was hitting made it easier on him than Crews.

The change in the balls alone mage a significant jump in HRs after Nola left LSU (everybody remembers his last year and small ball CWS).

What people on here are confusing is Walker did not play with remotely close to the same bats as Furniss. For example, some tools on here stated Walker played with the Easton “redline” bats. Those bats didn’t come out until 1997. The shaving and double walled wasn’t until the late 90’s.

While I agree that pitching is better. I also stand by Walker hit .400 for his career at LSU.
Crews in his first 2 seasons hit about .355. That is 50 points lower.
50 points is a TON in baseball.

Let’s see how he finishes this season.

Walker hit .289 as a pro, which is pretty good. .309 gets you into Coopers town if you play long enough.

There is a chasm between .289 and .300. .289 gets you into the realm of pretty good to good.
