YouTube linkCIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (AP) — Four Americans who traveled to Mexico last week to seek health care got caught in a deadly shootout and were kidnapped by heavily armed men who threw them in the back of a pickup truck, officials from both countries said Monday.

The four were traveling Friday in a white minivan with North Carolina license plates. They came under fire shortly after entering the city of Matamoros from Brownsville, at the southernmost tip of Texas near the Gulf coast, the FBI said in a statement Sunday.

“All four Americans were placed in a vehicle and taken from the scene by armed men,” the FBI said. The bureau is offering a $50,000 reward for the victims' return and the arrest of the kidnappers.

Zalandria Brown of Florence, South Carolina, said she has been in contact with the FBI and local officials after learning that her younger brother, Zindell Brown, is one of the four victims. Yea stay out of Mexico

The governor of Mexico’s Tamaulipas state said Tuesday that two of the four U.S. citizens kidnapped in the border city of Matamoros have been found dead and two others alive, one of them injured. Latavia “Tay” McGee was found alive unharmed while Eric James Williams was alive with a major wound in his left leg, said state Attorney General Irving Barrios.

The survivors were found at a small house in a field on the outskirts of Matamoros, he said. The bodies of the two others were found in the field.

If by “healthcare”; they mean drugs.

Not that it matters. Still shouldn’t be kidnapped.

Drove all the way from South Carolina for some “healthcare?”

Did the Mayo Clinic open a satellite just over the border, or something?

The female allegedly was going to get a Tummy Tuck operation. If you have seen the uncut / unblurred video, at least two of them are dead already. Most likely all of them by this point. Cartels don't play.

Meh. Get in the surf off the coast of South Africa and you run a risk of being eaten by a Great White shark. Same principle applies here. Matamoros is pretty notorious for abductions.

The details they are giving are so vague it seems intentional. They aren’t even confirming that they drove from the Carolinas just that the van had NC plates. If they were actually there for prescription medicine, they wouldn’t be able to fly with it all so driving would be their best option. I’m not familiar enough with the practice but I would think Canada would’ve been the much better option for doing this. It’s closer, safer, and I think the medicines are cheaper.

I know of several women that went to Mexico to have tummy tuck surgery. It’s easier to get the procedure done in Mexico than in the US supposedly.

There are facilities just over the border that do very cheap elective surgeries like tummy tucks and gastric sleeves. There are also some that do more significant types of surgeries. Some are legit, some are basically backroom witch doctor equivalents.

They were probably asking too many questions on how to get drugs in Mexico.

Damn Matamoras used to be the best border town. Decent beach nearby.

I think it's funny that people here don't realize how many Americans go to Mexico for medical and dental work and rx drugs.

Those Americans were lucky to be in Mexico and not New Orleans. They definitely would’ve been shot and not kidnapped.

So, honest question.
As an American hypothetically wanting to have a tummy tuck or any procedure really, how do you know which doctors are legit/good or not?
Google? Yelp? Tripadvisor?
I've spent months at a time in different countries across the world, and minor medical issues have come up a couple of times. Usually a friend/associate will just take me to the doctor, as there is a language barrier. Point being, I've had excellent care, even in some pretty random places, BUT, I've also had a personal "local" advocate/translator.
Perhaps I've answered my own question, but what if you don't have that friend with local connections and knowledge?

Yeah that's a rough video. As you said apparently they were mistaken for Haitian smugglers.. all we're black.

From the video, cartel rolled up on the van at a stoplight, unloaded a couple hundred rounds. Threw the one lady in the back of the truck and drug the other three clearly dead people / threw them in the truck and drove off. The whole area is gulf cartel controlled.
