Ford was the first to bring innovation to the Tailgate space, many years ago with the “man step” seen above. Then GM came behind with the steps on both sides of bumper, which was a good solution too.

A friend of mine’s Avalanche had bumper steps. I think it was made in 1999 or 2000. So I think the bumper steps came first.

Sad. Ford bowing to the lazy arse pussies! Step on the damn tire or the bumper! Put the freakin tail gate down and climb up in there....Or maybe ask your husband/boyfriend to help you.

You’re either too laughably short to get up in your compensation or too poor to buy running boards.

That or car manufacturers are making trucks way too big.

Or option D) I'm old and have bad knees.

GM commercials in 2005: LOL Ford put a step to get in the bed because sissies.

GM in 2008: adds steps

GM commercials in 2006: LOL Ford has an aluminum bed and it no good LOL

GM in 2009: adds aluminum bed

Seriously, GM fanboys are in denial in here.

WTF Motortrend? There's been a f*&king step in the rear bumper since trucks were first made .....

Pretty sure they are talking about the ones on the side. I wish my Ram had them.

Then Ford made the fancy tailgate step thing.

Laugh at the truck bed fold out step all you want, but I use that shite all the time when I have to stuff my truck bed full of baby crap in order for us to go anywhere overnight.

Chevys will never have the one feature that sets ford apart.

The electronic keypad to unlock doors or to pop the tailgate

I'm a big guy. 6"4' and I hate the height of my f250.

I liked the deal I paid and the shite it can pull but I'll be replacing the front springs and pulling blocks out the back in the future.

I use the damn truck like a truck and in and out of the bed is stupid.

Mines is a 2013 4wd and I will reduce it to the height of the 2wd.

GM didn't have rear seat AC vents until 2019

My 99 z71 in high school had rear seat vents

Chevy did away with them around 08 for some stupid reason

The real problem is that trucks have gotten so unnecessarily tall in the past few years that they require these features now. A 6' tall driver can't reach into most of the bed of their 3/4 ton truck anymore without climbing onto the wheel.
At the rate trucks are going, all the baws compensating will be driving big rigs in 5 years.

Midsize trucks are the size of the vehicles their dad’s and grandfather’s drove.

“Full-size” trucks are becoming monstrosities.

The beds and bedrails on trucks these days are absolutely higher than they were in the early 90s.

One feature Ford has over GM - they didn’t ask the government to save their arse.

Well that’s not entirely true, or at all true depending on how you look at it. But it’s true that they relied on the fedgov a whole lot less.

Ford took loans from the fedgov that were supposed to upgrade facilities to build fuel efficient vehicles but clearly provided them liquidity during the time. They also lobbied for cash for clunkers, which subsidized purchases of said fuel efficient vehicles. So they certainly got some help.

GM on the other hand, was not bailed out at all. The owners of the company lost their entire investment. The fedgov bought the company, put it through bankruptcy under its own terms, then sold the company. It’s a new company, the workers may have been bailed out, and you can still buy some of the same vehicles, but it is a complete mischaracterization that they were “bailed out”. The fedgov simply wanted their demise to be on their terms.
