I had a girl break up with me because I wouldn't make it "Facebook official." She is 34 and I am 44. I think it's dumb (and so do all my friends,) but her and her friends think it's the thing people should do if they're in a relationship.
Is this a younger generation thing?

She thinks I'm trying to hide something, or embarrassed of her

I hate to tell you boss but 34 is not the younger generation anymore. The younger generation doesn't even use Facebook because "it's for Boomers"

I know it probably sucks but it sounds like you dodged a bullet.

Just go ahead and admit you were only dating her for sex and that you didn't want your family and friends know that was the best you could do.

If she was a hottie you would be announcing it to the world.

Delete your Facebook and this won’t ever be a problem again.

Well were you? Even if you think it’s silly…what would have been the big deal with doing a small thing to make the person you supposedly love happy?

She probably dumped your arse cause she realizes if you can’t even be bothered to do a small silly thing to make her happy…what will you do when it comes the important stuff?

I haven’t had the Facebook since I was 35. You shouldn’t have one at 44.

While I think the breaking up because you wouldn’t is dumb, I’d like to know why you would t.

Unless his Facebook profile says "single and looking for a good time" then I don't think he should have to change anything. I'm sure the girl posts pics of the two of them and tags him so they would show up on his page anyway.

ive been in a relationship for 4 years and we didnt make it Facebook official. We are in our 40s. We know what we are and thats all that matters. Your ex sounds like shes still emotionally lingering in her mid 20s.
