Truckers are the worst drivers and possibly the worst people

I had the displeasure of driving I-55 today between St. Louis and Memphis and it was basically 90% trucks on the road. These motherfrickers don't give two shits about anything happening around them, they just know they need to spend the next 5 minutes passing the next truck and frick you and the 10 seconds it would have taken to let you pass first.
I've heard various excuses on this board from truckers blaming it on other drivers and talking about "oh you just don't understand how the trucks handle and they can't just accelerate and decelerate and yadda yadda". No I understand it just fine, if you pass another truck it's going to take 5 minutes. You have to know that and you just don't give a frick. If it wasn't 90% trucks on the road it was damn near it, and it was the worst interstate driving of my life. It's not everyone else's fault, it's yours.

They are good people outside the truck but they definitely act like the own the road. I kind of get it as it’s their place of work.
Just wish they would stay in the right lane.

They will run you off the road if you are in their way but have no problem being in everyone else's way. Automated trucks restricted to the right lane can't come soon enough.

They should only be allowed on the interstate at night

It sounds like you don't understand

It annoys me but then I remember that without them we would not have all of our stuff to buy at stores. Also, tbf dont they have governors on them? I will agree passing or them being in the left lane causing congestion behind them can get dicey.

Fine. But when traffic is thick stay the frick out of the left lane.

Somewhat with you on this, most company trucks are limited in speed, that being said if I was the trucker in the right lane being slowly passed I’d slow down a bit and let it happen quicker. On the other side they could all just quit so you’d have no truckers to bitch about all the while starving to death with nothing to wipe your arse with. Are some of them bad, yes, but in general they are good people. Just like cops and posters here, there are always shitty ones to deal with.

For as many hours as they spend on the road, you’d think 18 wheeler drivers would know the left lane is for passing.

I've deposed over the years probably 50 or 60 that either killed or maimed someone.
A few of my favorites: one was legally blind according to the State of Miss but had a valid CDL. He killed a 16 year old girl on I20 outside of Monroe;
One had a documented history of seizures and also had a valid CDL. In fact he had a seizure during his deposition. He killed a young mother and her brother on I49 at the Mansfield exit.
If people had any idea who was driving these rigs they wouldnt get on the interstate.

I have to deal with truckers every day. I also manage 6 of them that haul containers from the port to our warehouse. There are three kind of truck drivers. The first is the professional truck driver. They do a great job and represent their industry in a positive manner. The second is good drivers but they are peculiar to deal with and more often then not pretty reliable. The third is what I call steering wheel huggers. They can’t drive for shite and are a pain in the arse to deal with. Generally just dumb as a box of rocks or just assholes.
Concerning the passing thing independent truck drivers that own their own rigs is becoming rare these days. Larger national companies own most of the fleets you see driving up and down the highways. The tractor is generally leased through someone like Penske who performs all the maintenance on the fleet. They govern these trucks to run about 70 to 72 mph to conserve fuel and to keep their drivers from speeding. It’s hell for them to pass each other when they can’t accelerate past each other. If they stick their rig on cruise control they continuously run up on each other because some trucks are only a few miles per hour faster but it does make a difference over several miles. So when they try to pass I think the slower truck just needs to back off his speed a tad bit and let the other one by. That’s common professional courtesy. But the steering wheel huggers are too dumb to let the other guy go past him which drives me nuts.
Having said all this, if every trucker in the U.S. took 2-3 weeks off this country would be screwed because there would be nothing on the shelves in the stores nor would there be fuel at the gas stations. I really preferred it when there were more independent truck drivers on the road but those guys drove 95 MPH and many operated in an unsafe manner all jacked up on meth running two log books. Truck driving is a tough career path so I do respect the good ones out there. But the idiots sure make the professional ones out there look bad.

If someone complains about one driver, it is usually 50% of the time
the person is feeling the truth.
When the person complains about every trucker on the road, is it the truckers or the person?

My wife hates having to be behind them.
I of course go “Chuck Harder” mode and start talking about how our economy would really get screwed w/o truckers.

I drive 55 through MS often and never see a-hole truckers. Seriously.

Bro you left St Louis and went to Memphis and you’re worried about truck drivers getting you killed?
Posted on 2/22/23 at 9:09 pm to Korkstand
The worst is when you are getting ready to pass one of them, and at the last second they dart into the left lane causing you to rapidly slow down to not run into the back of them. Then they spend 10 minutes passing another truck. If they had just waited 5 seconds, you'd be past them and out of their way, but no...they have to be assholes.
There is no excuse for that trucker behavior.

Nope. They've gotta go a half mile an hour faster and pass that slow fricker holding them up in the right lane. That shite pisses me off. Make that shite illegal and start ticketing them consistently.
