We have a 2008 Touring since new as a now 3rd vehicle with 140k miles. My daughter is learning to drive with it now.
-VCM system is notorious for engine problems (oil consumption, failed cats, fouled plugs, etc.), I disabled mine with an aftermarket harness and you should too if you end up buying one.
-Front seat painted leather failed 5 years in and was replaced under extended warranty.
-Replaced failed alternator at 104k
-Both CV joint boots have failed
-Numerous recalls
-Rides stiff compared to other people haulers (known Honda trait).
-Transmission troubles seem to be pre-2007 but you still need to do a partial change the tranny fluid every 30k or it will fail eventually.
We upgraded the Odyssey with a 2016 Toyota Sienna.
-Much improved ride and handling, less taut and electric steering is low effort.
-Better NVH than the Odyssey
-92k so far with the only repairs being replacing warped front brake rotors at 62k when I changed the pads (just as cheap to DIY replace as have the dealer turn)
If the wife's 2016 Sienna was totaled tomorrow I would buy and wait for a Sienna Hybrid. I'm not necessarily a fan of the hybrid, but Toyota has been doing it a long time and I would give it a shot.
If you do get the Honda disable the VCM immediately. It doesn't do shite as far as increased fuel mileage and it causes nothing but problems.

2014. Bought as certified used from Toyota. Vehicle has been amazing. Had a warranty recall a while back, but otherwise no issues. Bought at 30K miles and driven it past 100K, still going strong. May need ball joints replaced which is an easy job for DIY. Only thing I’ve found that pisses me off is the work required to change front headlights. Gotta take off the whole front wrap just to gain access to the bulbs.

Had a 2012 that was trouble free and a great drive.
As a people hauler it is unsurpassed for kids or adults.

My uncle owns two early 00s odyssey’s both over 200k miles. Runs great you just got unlucky I guess or you drive like s hit

We have a 2017 Odyssey SE, ~60K miles. Van is a beast for hauling the family and stuff (we have 4 kids) on long trips. Put an AGM battery in for all the stuff on the van (DVD, power doors, kids leaving lights on). The transmission issue is real, called "judder" if you want to Google it. Isn't problem on new models, think it ended with 2017-18. They basically reprogram the shift points and 3x flush the fluid, Honda paid for it all. Overall love the van if you have kids. Only one that could handle 4 car seats so that was it for us in beginning.

Pure stupidity. Best thing about a minivan is the sliding door for kids. You never hit anyones car when they get out and easier for them to get in.

Got a 2018 Odyssey with about 80k miles.
Our biggest gripe is not enough ac vents in the back to cool the backseat in the summer.
We’ve had issues with the electric sliding doors. We got a CV boot that needs to be replaced.

I bought a 2012 with 130k miles in 2020. I paid like 6800 cash. The best decision I made. I does burn a little oil but that is if I go longer than 5k between oil changes. I had to change the spark plugs at 180k miles. She is probably due for a timing belt change. I at 220k miles now. The one weakness in some Honda products is the timing belt since they use a rubber belt instead of a metal chain. I also have the dreaded judder issue at 45 mph in the tranny, but I usually will shift it to D3 and it goes away. I only do it when it have to drive long stretches of 45 mph. Most places, I can push it to over 50 and it is gone.
The vinyl seats are holing up well, except on one wear point the driver’s arm rest.
