I forgot that woman’s name — her dad is a big name politician in Louisiana.

Dale Durwood Brown should be the ONLY name on that court. If it weren't for Pistol Pete, Dale's name should be on the building.

Tate and Temple took Brown to lunch on his 87th birthday— and suggested that Brown be the one to initiate the name change. Brown reportedly was upset.

Again as I alluded to above....I'm somewhat surprised, not that Brown would be upset over what he perceived a personal slight...hell that's basically his whole life in a nutshell.

I guess I just never knew he had some a dislike/disrespect for Gunter. I thought I knew just about all things Dale but apparently not, I did not know this.

As I said my first instinct was I would have thought Brown would have suggested sharing it himself. But I didn't know the behind the scenes feelings he had for Sue until I started hearing about this.

At this point throw DD Breaux on the court as well, frick it. She had a similar resume too.

But really, Pokey is the biggest achiever of them all.

Ok, so what if they did politic to get Dale's name on the court and I truly dont give a shite who's name is on the court. Louisiana politics are complete garbage. You have proof they worked to keep her name off? The irrational hate for Dale is beyond me but, how this has gone down is typical Louisiana. Tim has made no bones that he did go to bat to get his name on the court and owes his career to Dale. Lord for bid that he take issue with what has happened with the governor getting involved. Pointing out a wrong doesnt not constitute a red herring. Wrong is wrong whether you like the parties involved or not.

I was a student when we had Chris Jackson and Shaq, I would love to have just that level of success as a program again but arenas/stadiums should be named after someone who dd something truly exceptional line the all time leading scorer in NCAA history not a guy who had a good run just because no one else at the same school ever did anything

Then they are hypocrites if they object to someone else using politics to get Gunters name on the court as well.

Has anyone made that accusation?

How is adding another name “irrational” hate? Frankly I’m not a fan of naming things like this after people for this reason. Statues are bad enough. Retired numbers, plaques and or banners in the rafters commemorating achievements like Final Fours, Tournament berths, SEC titles etc should suffice

Wasnt it decided over a year ago? I mean wouldnt you be a little upset if something was decided and passed via vote only to be changed a year later?

Yes, the person I responded to stated that they "likely" politic'd to keep her name off.

Yes, the hate for Dale is on display through out the entire thread. Dont conflate adding another name as irrational. Like I said, I dont care who's name is on the court.

It’s funny to see the number of people saying things like “I don’t really care but….”

I absolutely don’t care who’s name is on the court…. BUT…. I am going to call out BS being spouted about by local media.

Fwiw I guess I do care, I want to start a campaign to name it the “Jabari Smith Funk Dunk Court at Torris Bright Jump Pass Pavilion”

Dale Brown has a huge ego. He is motivated by getting attention, not altruism.

I just love the hypocrisy of Moscona being outrage at how “political” this is when that’s exactly how his name got on the court in the first place.

But..but… they voted on this last year. So is the BOS only allowed to make one vote on issues? Once voted on it can never be revisited?

There has to be something else going on to get this upset about it.

I've read posts alluding to Dale did not like Sue because she was a chain smoker and a lesbian, disparaged her character behind closed doors etc. Which surprised me as it seems to me, and my memory could be wrong, he said good things about her when they were coaching here together.

Two things can be true at once. I don’t care about naming the court and the whole sequence of events that has led to this is a microcosm of how piss poor Louisiana is as a state.

Dale can argue all the other reasons, perceived or otherwise, he wants, but he best not open the morals' door. And no one should think Dale is just sitting in a corner sucking his thumb. Better believe he's working the phones. To no one's betterment. Dale is a vengeful SOB & won't walk off into the sunset quietly.

Dale has done a lot of good for a lot of people - more than I ever will in my lifetime. But he's also got a dark side as many of us do vengefulness and vindictiveness is certainly a part of who he is as well.

My understanding is they started trying to get it named after Brown a decade ago but it passed last year. I talked to a friend who has some scoop and said they tried to do Brown/Gunter last year but it was voted down and now a board member has pressured JBE/Tate to add Gunters name.

Assuming all that’s true and they ambushed Brown that’s pretty shitty but guys like Brando and Vitale don’t help matters

Yeah I’m reading the whole thread I was in school for the end of his “golden era” and there were plenty of arguments about his coaching then, it the win it all or you suck culture we have now it’s only worse I’m sure

Actually I’d rather have no one’s name. Put their names in the ring of honor or on banners in the rafters with retired numbers or something like that.

That has-been doesn’t deserve to have his middle name known in public let alone his name on the court.
