As I said in my post, it has to do with what Mascona said when speaking about the court renaming issue. This is a symptom of a greater problem we’re dealing with in Louisiana.

Naming the court after Dale in the first place was a political thing.

Final 4s aren’t an achievement?

Yup. Adding Gunter's name is no more or less a political thing than putting Brown's name on the court. However, it is telling to listen to the histrionics of Brown's supporters. The way they are attacking Gunter's character, you would think LSU was talking about removing Brown's name from the court altogether. It is not uncommon for athletic venues to be named, renamed or have names added. LSU can honor whoever it wants to, when it wants to, in whatever way it wants to.

The only embarrassing thing is his reaction to this halfhearted “gesture” to get Sue’s name on the court as if it’s some sort of massive slight on Dale

Our state is an embarrassment. We rank last in just about every metric that is used to measure success. The crux of Brando's argument is Louisiana politics.

Except he isn't deserving of it. To be fair, I don't think they should have named the court after anyone that hasn't achieved a higher level of success.

I heard some of Brando’s rant yesterday afternoon. He mentioned Jim Engster, and Dick Vitale as being on his side. Weren’t all these guys part of the anti Wade brigade and along with Dale were putting anti Wade stuff out there?

Is that correct?

I honestly have no clue. I am mostly agreeing with Timmy B on the politics on how all of this has gone down. They voted on it over a year ago and now voting on it again?

Yes. 100%. Add Pat Forde and Pete Thamel and several KU boosters via Calipari to the list. Note, Pat Forde lives in Louisville. Louisville and Lexington are not that far from each other. And if you are wondering why I included Calipari, it's because Smart played on Calipari's AAU feeder team in Houston who is coached by one of Calipari's former KU players. Calipari was REALLY pissed WW stole Smart from Calipari during recruiting.

Dale's teams were so talented. Good leader and motivator but terrible game day tactician.

Nah. It's lack of job opportunities. And the lack of job opportunities are due to the fact that the cost of doing business is high in this state and a lot of hat has to do with political corruption.

This is the result of rewarding mediocrity. Now anyone with moderate success can have claim. Should’ve just hung banners and left the court alone.

I’m still waiting for anyone to tell me how this is a disgrace to brown.

ETA: if you want to downvote, tell us how it’s a disgrace. If not, you’re just downvoting because moscona and Brando told you to.

They politicked for years to get his name on, likely politicked to keep her's off last year when they voted on it, and now they're mad someone else is politicking. Crying about Louisiana's backwards politics is just a red herring.

oh absolutely as this was discussed for many years before it was finally approved as there were some folks in places of influence who did not EVER want to see it happen...Dale did burn some bridges in his time at LSU.

I am curious though as I see some folks alluding to the fact that Dale did not like Sue and disparaged her back when they were here together. I did not get that impression back when they were here together, I guess I missed any of that if true.

But in that vein I was a bit surprised Dale did not come out himself and say something like he'd be honored to share the name with Sue...whatever one's stance on the issue that would have immediately diffused the situation and in fact I was almost a bit surprised he didn't, champion of the underdog and the underappreciated and all of that kind of stuff Dale is always preaching about...almost seemed right up his alley. Hell practically everything that drove him in life is his anger at how his mother was mistreated by society and his own father. Defending women's rights would almost seem to be a pulpit pounder for him? Guess not.

Tate and Temple took Brown to lunch on his 87th birthday— and suggested that Brown be the one to initiate the name change. Brown reportedly was upset.

That’s an a-hole thing to do on the part of Tate and Temple and JBE. Agree with the change or not, they went about this in a bitch way.
