It’s a good strategy if you don’t want to pay child support.
A friend of mine is counting down the months to freedom from a psycho bitch as we type.

I mean how close to 18 are we talking about here?

So probably dumb question cause I don’t know anything about this:
1) why divorce at that point? why not just agree to go your separate ways. Try and work out how to split finances outside of court. Once lawyers get involve, I assume it gets messier
2) do you have to follow through if wife serves you divorce papers? What if you just don’t agree with signing?

At that point, if you don’t like each other, why not? You’ve done your sentence. Go enjoy your life.

Life is short. Staying in a miserable marriage isn’t good for anyone. Your children can see your misery. Why drag it out?

16 years to be miserable? Why don’t you try therapy?

So your kid is 2. That's a long haul buddy.

Would be the best for the kids though

I don't agree so I won't do it.
Usually works in court

Yep. No child support. No shuffling kid back and forth. Kid can decide where they want to stay and with who. No talking to ex.

Need to make her get a job, the higher paying the better. Even if you wait just a few years do this. If you wait 16 more and she is just a stay at home mom your fricked.

Kids pick up on unhappiness and in addition you’re modeling what marriage looks like for your kids. Do you want them to have a marriage like yours one day?

Hopefully she works.
Is alimony a possibility where your "friend" resides if she doesn't work?
