Have any of you bought any of these.

They look pretty cool.

Not cheap by Timex standards.
This one reminds me of a Timex my dad had. It still works as long as I wind it.

Is this an actual manual wind? Because it says mechanical on the dial. I love an old school manual wind

You should also spring for one of those sweet Twisto-O-Flex bands!

The Marlins have been pretty popular since they came out, both in automatic and manual wind. Timex doing the vintage inspired watches like the Marlin and Q series have resurrected them from the dustbin.

They have a new panda and reverse panda in the Q line. They are quartz but very vintage cool for the price.

Mechanical refers to the movement as a whole, not the winding mechanism. A mechanical watch can either be manual or automatic wound. If I had to guess, these are going to be automatics, simply because the type of watch buyer who gets a Timex likely isn't going to find manual winding charming.

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to winding?

Nostalgia?

Theoretically, a manual has fewer moving parts than an automatic (which almost always can also be manually wound), but beyond that, not really. And not really nostalgia, but... traditional? Some people just like for their watch to be a part of their morning routine, which you lose a bit with an automatic.

In 2023, mechanical watches are inherently unnecessary, so the pleasure of interacting with it is part of the charm of owning one. Manual winds have a bit more reason to interact with them regularly. And anecdotally, I find the winding action of manuals to usually be a bit more pleasant than automatics, for whatever reason.

Get it up and going faster vs a non-manual wind. For an occasional wear mechanical watch I definitely prefer hacking and manual wind. Some non-hacking automatics are pretty efficient, require very little rotor movement to get them going. My Orients are like that.

Time doesn't exist. Time as we think of it isn't innate to the natural world; it's a man-made construct intended to describe, monitor, and control industry and individual production.

A fine watch is a little mechanical sculpture you wear on your arm. Some people collect paintings. Some people collect watches.
