Looks just like all the old 60’s and 70’s manual wind Times watches.

The different color sectors reminds me of a radio room watch but not exactly. I don't particularly like the color selection and it looks a little cartoonish but to each his own.

If it were me and I was looking for a watch with a similar vibe I would get a Vostock Amphibian with a radio room dial. It is a watch with history and the dial is a design that was actually useful and has a history of its own.

Amazon has a Vostik store now and while they aren't as cheap as buying direct from Russia it is a lot quicker and has none of the concerns about ordering from overseas.

I had one of these in the Army and damn do I miss it. Simple, elegant and I dug the OD green canvas wristband.

At the mall last week with the wife and drifted over to the watch displays and noticed a Seiko 5 Sport that had a somewhat similar look of a SKX007 that I have. Similar till I got a closer look. Definitely not the same watch. Looked at some reviews on the 5 Sports and the ratings are as wide as a football field. From "Hot Garbage" to "Excellent time piece for the money".
What's your thoughts on these and the 4R36 movement?

That would meet my personal preferences in a watch:

1 - Has to have (Arabic) numbers. Either 1-12 or at least four numbers like this one's 12, 3, 6 and 9.

2 - It is aesthetically pleasing to my tastes.

3- Leather band,

4- I'm not paying a premium for status symbol component. This is obviously pretty subjective, but for me it means under $200.00 at the highest.

I have the Scuba Dude Vostok. It ran for a little while, but locked up a couple of time. It even survived dive trips, so it is a true dive watch.
Would not mind getting it fixed again, but would likely be more expensive than replacing it.

It looks like it would be easy to read. My new Seiko is hard as hell to read unless it's in a brightly lit room.

I know people are into different things. I’m cool with that. BUT, why would anyone wear a watch these days? You have a damn computer in your pocket. I can tell you what time it is in fricking Mogadishu.

Seiko 5's are the best automatic beater watches ever made, end of story.

I prefer a manually wound watch because it's easy to ensure that it's fully wound. Wind it until it stops.

With an automatic watch, you can wind endlessly. So, unless it has a power reserve indicator, you don't really know the state of the spring.

Seiko for life when it comes to lower priced automatics/mechanicals.

Or just save your money and jump up a tier into tissot/hamilton/used omega territory.

do you even watchbox with winders baw?

eta if you wear the watch all day it gets wound enough to last 1-2 days at a minimum. there's no 'winding' involved.
