I'm sure this thread gets recycled quite often. Apologies.

"Love Bites" by Def Leppard. Granted I was 10 when it came out, but in the chorus I always heard "better than Germany". I never got it, never asked why, just was always pulling for it to make the MTV top 25 music videos...was in a back and forth battle with Poison's "Fallen Angel".

No lie, was probably in my 30's when a friend explained it was "bringing me to my knees".

Pretty much any Pearl Jam song I never knew what the heck he was saying.
On a wheel, on a wizard, on a whale.

I'm almost 50. About 5 years ago someone told me it wasn't "like a twister I was born to walk alone"

In Elton's "Rocket Man" I never knew it was "burning out his fuel up here alone" until I googled it after that commercial where everyone sang it wrong. lol

I suck at discerning lyrics. I couldn't even start to list what i've gotten wrong. But i can start w/ the 4th grade, "a partridge pit-a-pear treeeee"

one i've always misheard was in

The man who sold the world
i heard

I gazed a gazeless stare
with muti-millionaires

Then got confuse because Nirvana video has the lyrics

I gazed a gazeless stare
We walked a million hills

But, AZ-Lyrics has

I gazed a gazeless stare
At all the millons here.

Having never heard of a "casbah", I always thought it said "block it with asphalt, block it with asphalt".

"Drifter" wasn't the lyric in the original version of the song released on Whitesnake's earlier record Saints & Sinners

"In an interview, Coverdale explained that initially the lyrics had "drifter" but as that was already used in different songs he chose instead "hobo", however the latter was changed again to "drifter" in the re-recorded '87 version, reportedly to ensure that it would not be misheard."

The funniest one I know of was from a college friend of mine. REM had a song called "Cuyahoga" (pronounced "Ki-a-ho-guh"). He'd never heard the word before, and when they sang it he thought they were saying, "Take your clothes off"

Bennie and the Jets
“She’s got electric boots!”
My 16 year old self kept hearing “She’s got electric boobs!”
I don’t think I found out the actual lyric until I was about 50

When I was a teenager and I first heard The Smith's "How Soon is Now?"

I thought Morrissey was singing "I am the sun and the air..." then a couple of years later driving down the road it hit me... ohhhh.... it's "I am the son and the heir.." which makes much more sense with the following line...
