Two, but right now there is only one option per park.

For the pros with kids. If I'm only planning on going once what would you say is the ideal age to go?

Sounds like you did none of that and spent your entire trip stressing and scheming how to skip the most lines.

I don't go to Disney World to relax

I agree with this but there's more to it to me then that. There's relaxing and there's not being stressed, and its a lot more difficult these days to not be stressed.

The planning, the lines, the lack of activities without fighting a mass of people, etc.

I also really don't trust disney's ride times and attendance numbers, in that so many times they have shown one number and the personal experience not be close. Such as a 45 min wait turns into 1.5 hours. Or a 5 min wait turn into 45 mins. I get that stuff breaks down, that's different. But its pretty damn easy to know exactly where a line is and how long that line takes to get to the ride.

I live in Fl and the next time I go to Disney will likely be to Disneyland just to try something different.

If you are only planning to take one trip, I think 12/13 is probably the best. At that age they can ride things themselves that maybe you as parents might not be interested in. They can handle the miles and miles of walking without need of a stroller or being held. they can carry their own backpacks if they need. They are tall enough to ride everything in all parks and depending on then time of year, would likely enjoy the water parks and shopping at Disney Springs as well.

Many will disagree, but man there's few days in your life that a little kid will be as happy as the day you take a 3-5 year old to Disney. Even younger depending on the kid. As said the older the easier they are as they can do it themselves.

I've been with all 3 of my kids when they were under 5 and there's just something absolutely magical to them seeing all the characters and rides and shows that young. My 9 year old knows its all fake and its just not the same.

Man, I just don't think there is a "right" or "wrong" answer to that question. It's magical at any age but it sure was alot of work when the little one got out of stroller and decided that naps were for babies

Do people pull their kids out of school to take them to Disney?

To my surprise, yes. Add that to the increasing home school crowd and that’s probably part of the uptick.

This is absolutely the correct answer. Take them when they are 4 or 5, and they will be overcome with joy with the characters and immersive experiences.

The same can be said as they age as well...there is no "absolutely correct answer" because the immersion and experience is different. No better or worse, just different.

At 4/5 they will be more immersed in Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh or maybe Figment. At say 10/11 they would be more immersed in Rise of the Resistance, Flight of Passage and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Disney is:

Crowded
Dirty
Expensive
Bad Food

Now it’s 45+ minute lines, can’t book a fast pass for the best rides for hours even at rope drop, packed full of rude people, mobility scooters everywhere, etc. Then when the fast pass is ready, the damn ride goes down for maintenance.
We went this past summer with 3 other families for 4 days. We saw EVERYTHING including the hard to get rides such as Rise of the Resistance, Avatar's flight of passage, etc. Maybe we lucked out but everyone had a great time even though it was extremely crowded.

I would much rather go to Univeral.

I also have found that a vacation to Europe is cheaper than Disney

We prefer Disneyland due to close proximity. Stay at Grand Californian and with a 5 minute walk you are in either park.

My daughter is at that point now, so that will probably be what we do next time we go to the Orlando area. She loves the Harry Potter area and she wants to see it again.

I find Universal to feel much more packed than Disney due to it not being wide open (and still tons of people), so we'd make sure we had their version of fastpass again.

Yes Disney is dirty.
You don't think all those kids are rubbing snot all over every ride and pissing through their diapers? I love kids and my son, but let's be real about this.

During the day when it is open little to no cleaning occurs.

Unless you are 6, Disney is 80% waiting in line and tripping over other tourists, 19% gift shops and overpriced food, and 1% fun.

We took my son when he was 6 and left my 18 month old at home with grandparents. He was just over 48” tall and able to ride every ride. We had a fantastic time but he couldn’t have cared less about the character stuff and just wanted to ride all the rides.

Fast forward, we are heading there in 2 weeks with him (now 9 and my daughter who will be turning 5 while we’re there). She is not tall enough for the big rides but she is so excited about the characters, and we will just be splitting up when my son wants to ride the roller coasters.

This will likely be our last trip but that is TBD. But my daughter is PUMPED about all the different princesses/characters she will get to see/meet, so I’d agree with others that 4-5 is probably the best age if you’re just going to be one and done.
