Was Disney always this bad?

Was Disney always this bad? Maybe I am just remembering it more fondly because I haven’t been there since I was 7.
Now it’s 45+ minute lines, can’t book a fast pass for the best rides for hours even at rope drop, packed full of rude people, mobility scooters everywhere, etc. Then when the fast pass is ready, the damn ride goes down for maintenance.
Clearly there is a trick to this system that wasn’t shared with us.
Seems like it’s just a giant gift shop that’s at least 30 minutes away from even the nicer hotels, with a few disappointing rides sprinkled in. How on earth do people stay here for 10+ hours?
It’s not fun. That’s what they sell and fail to deliver. I’m glad I am here with my family…but I wish we had gone somewhere else or found a time when the park was far less busy.

Problem with these new rides is the technology running them the old rides are still the most reliable

It’s middle of the week in January man, there’s no such thing. Maybe slightly less busy. But it’s busy year round, it gets worse then what you see I can promise.

That’s nuts. I am not sure you can fit more people in MK than what we saw yesterday. You can’t get around there without tripping over people.
Epcot isn’t quite as bad.
Gonna try to go back to MK at like 9PM and see if it’s better.

There were times, pre-covid, where it was relatively empty. I have pictures with my kids where there is literally no one around. I'm not sure what it is, or how some of these people afford it, but since they opened back up, low crowd days are equivalent to moderate crowd days of the past.
The only thing that makes sense is perhaps more kids are home schooled now and most of the visitors are just racking up credit card debt.
Whats odd is Universal has not seen the same increase in traffic as Disney.

I saw a tower crane at WallCOT and some people playing drums on metal garbage cans. Both of which I can see in Baton Rouge.
It’s arts festival today. So there are vendors everywhere and I was able to get a nice drink and see some interesting stuff. Wife is getting bored now though.
Guardians of the Galaxy is awesome though. That’s a great new ride and the virtual queue + the subtext given on the exhibit in line is a pretty solid way to handle the crowd and keep it interesting.

Actually, some school systems excuse these days citing it as an educational trip. I kid you not.

Its MLK week. The problem with Disney is its hot as shite in the summer so a lot of people never want to go back. So then they try to plan times that are "not as busy" and the problem IMO is that's not a year round trend.
Plus Disney closes things down and does construction in the winter to parts of the park, so even if only 5-10% of things are shut down that can have a noticeable impact on the other rides.
Crazy thing, is Disney is still somewhat in financial trouble as their stock is down almost 50% from the 52 Wk high.

Can’t imagine park attendance is down from Covid lows. But maybe people are spending less?
Hate to say this…but they need to ditch most of the older classics and reformat to the newer stuff with the virtual queues. No other way to handle those crowds. And that’s going to be extremely expensive.

I just went last month (Epcot and Magic Kingdom) and the longest wait we had the entire time was for Barnstormer for around 25 minutes. The day included Splash, Thunder, Pirates, Space, Festival of Fantasy, Philharmagic, Little Mermaid Ride, Mine Train, Haunted Mansion, Buzz, Barnstomer and People Mover. In Epcot we didn Remy, Spaceship Earth, Soarin, Test Track, Guardians of the Galaxy, Living with The Land and hung around for Harmonious.
Unfortunately, it takes alot of planning and strategic use of Genie+ and Individual Lightning Lanes but two people in the same parks on the same days can have vastly different experiences based on what time they arrive, what park they go to first, how late they stay, what they use G+ on, whether or not they get boarding groups, whether or not they use ILLs, what attractions they do first and save for last, etc.

Not everybody wants to do all that stuff and spend the entire day glued to the phone, plus spending the extra $$$ on top of the already ridiculous park prices

This is why it sucks.
All this to deal with a chronically overbooked park.

I don't go to Disney World to relax. In fact, I don't take many vacations to relax. Relaxing isn't relaxing for me. I would rather explore, be active, hike, surf, ski, get lost, tour museums.
Going to WDW to relax is like going to 30A to go fly fishing Salmon.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to go at all and it certainly isn't for everyone. Just stating that an anecdotal experience doesnt mean everyone has the same experience. It may have sucked for you but it doesnt suck for alot of people.
Our style for the last few years has been less park days, less dining on-site, less money spent on-site to subsidize the extra add-ons like after hours events, genie Plus, etc.
Our money is now invested in touring to avoid the crowds when possible and when we stay on-site, we go deluxe so we can save time and walk to the parks and eat in the room with a full kitchen.
There's plenty of magic left for alot of people but it's definitely different than it was just 5-10 years ago. The planning to go to WDW for me is comparable to anywhere else I would go honestly. What we do plan, we plan to give ourselves the most flexibility as possible and not just a laundry list of things we HAVE to do.
It's still possible but you can't do it today the way you did it 5-10 years ago and expect the same results...things are just too different now.
Personally, I MUCH prefer not having to plan Fastpasses 60 days in advance and would just rather pay to jump the line the day of.
