I've got all my (terrible) justifications in order and found several good used options. I would be moving from a 2017 RAM 1500 2WD that I bought brand new.

Does anyone own a Tundra that would advise me to steer clear?

Anyone have a Ram and made it to 200K miles with no major issues?

I'm about to pay to have the standard RAM/Hemi exhaust problem fixed. At that point, I can either sell it/trade it with a clear conscience.....or sink a little money into it with some functional upgrades and ride it out for another couple years. 96K miles as of today.

Make sure the wires don't have soy in the coatings or the rats will eat them.

on my 3rd tundra and had a tacoma before the tundra. zero issues, have traded them in around 170k miles with very little maintenance. I know folks that have driven them to 250k miles. the most recent is a '19 so not sure about the new model tundra.

Yes, 225,0000 miles I had to change the clutch on the cooling fan. Amazing truck. 275,000 miles the water pump went out. Those were the only two thing that went wrong that were not completely my fault. This truck did a lot of towing and went down thousands of miles of crappy gravel roads. It was a 2009 with the 4.7 V8 and 3.55 rear end. My current Ram has the hemi and 3.21 rear axle. 60,000 miles zero issues.

I had 4 buddies not buy them again. They all went GM or Ram. They all disliked the interior and horrible fuel economy. Also, there are no front tow hooks on the new Tundra's.

Can you bump up your budget to make it to a 2022? Might as well get the new body style.

I was hesitant going with a truck with a brand new motor but I have a 2023 with the twin turbo hybrid and absolutely love it. I went from a f150 eco boost and definitely like this motor more (only 5k miles on it so far though). The interior and entertainment system is top notch as well.

Have been in a 2019 5.7 Tundra crew for over a year now and couldn’t be happier. It burns some gas, but when you hit the pedal it goes which I love about it. It doesn’t have a lot of the bells and whistles in the interior which I haven’t ever learned to miss, but something to consider if you want stuff like heated seats or zoned climate control.

This thread is a good example of why its not very useful to listen to the general public on who makes a good truck. Opinions are all over the place and you can read/listen for 10hours and still not be any closer to a conclusion. Its just a shitshow.

I've decided the best place to glean info on vehicles is reputable auto repair shops. They see the same make and years of trucks over and over and over. A caveat is the 4ish year and newer models because they simply don't get those in the shop.

fyi, Toyota seem to come out on top as far as reliability and ease of repair are concerned. And all vehicles aren't made as well as they were 15-20 years ago. Isn't helping the gov mandates fuel economy which pushes manus to turn trucks/cars more into something that resembles spaceships with the technology.

Get out of the Ram before a lifter goes bad and wipes out your cam.

So you have a 2017 Ram with only 96K miles? Dude just keep it. I have a 2016 Tundra and it’s great but there’s no reason to get rid of a perfectly good Ram. Tundra won’t have any more creature comforts than your Ram either.

Only comment I have on it is from a friend that owns a Toyota dealer. He says he usually doesn’t believe in the whole “don’t by the first year of a new model” but he absolutely says if you’re going with the new model tundra to go with the 23 and not the 22. He says they’ve had a lot of problems with the 22 but the 23 seems to be great.

I have a 21. Fantastic truck so far. I don't drive a ton so the mileage doesn't bother me much. I do get around 17mpg, which is about what I got on my f150.
