I have a completely different take on the Borat movie. I don't think it's in any way transgressive or politically incorrect. I think it oozes left-wing New York / London / Tel Aviv orthodoxy.

I'll paste in my post from 2020, which has only grown more true:

quote:

The Borat movie was predictive programming. Relations with Russia were generally favorable at the time. Remember, it wasn't that long after the collapse of the USSR.

Then, all of the sudden, we've got this movie just unabashedly throwing Russia under the bus. (Don't give me that Kazakhstan horse shite- the dude's a Russian stereotype.)

The whole thing was really strange. Go back and read the reviews. Borat was universally acclaimed as high art and insightful commentary. When's the last time you actually had the urge to watch it, though?

Now, we live in a world where the entirety of the mainstream news was devoted to "Russia bad" for months if not years. And we're all primed for it, having been told by Borat that Russians are backward, racist homophobes. Oh, and they have a lot in common with frat boys from Alabama! Isn't that all convenient?

And a good answer is "Birth of a Nation," which frankly is the movie they actually need to see.

GWtW, the mother of all offending films from the Golden Era of Hollywood.

Hattie McDaniel‘s portrayal of the character Mammy was the perhaps the most realized and memorable performance in the film — and that is quite an accomplishment considering the ensemble of talented stars surrounding her.

Yet this historical performance by a gifted black actress is in danger of being cancelled because it offends our modern sensibilities.

Gone with the Wind removed from HBO Max…

Anybody seen Fast Times at Ridgemont High lately? What have they done with Spiccoli's interview during his daydream?
