Flying out of New Orleans so Denver airport seems the most logical for travel, but interested in other places as well.

I've done Breck and Steamboat in the summer with kids.

Both were great, steamboat has a couple of hot springs you can go to, not sure if breck has that.

I like Estes Park and RMNP over ski resort towns in the Summer, but that's just me.

I've been and split a trip up between the two, though (going to Vail for a day and night before heading out).

What are you looking to do OP? I can't recommend Wyoming enough because of the wildlife and scenery. But you could also consider MOAB area or somewhere in southern UTAH visiting the National Parks.

I think almost all of the ski resorts have summer activities. I love to take the ski lifts to the top and hike around up high.

Depends on what you plan on doing. If hiking is your main goal, then I'd check out the Jenny Lake Lodge at Grand Teton. There are tons of hikes in Grand Teton National Park. The Jenny Lake Lodge sits on crystal clear Jenny Lake with a view of Signal Mountain. You can rent kayaks, paddle boards, and boats. You can fly into Jackson Hole, WY. The town of Jackson Hole is great. There is a fun dinner theatre in the summer months, chuck wagon shows, alpine slide, horse rides, etc. There is white water rafting that is kid friendly. You are also close to Yellowstone. I recommend a wildlife tour of yellowstone. There are companies that will pick you up at your lodge.

we’ve gone to Colorado every summer for the past five years. Buena Vista is our favorite

nice little town with everything you need and tons of outdoor stuff to do all around you. Hiking, rafting, zip lining, ghost towns, hot springs, dining, bars, even a drive in movie theater

it’s great, and in the summer it’s full of families

We did vail for a summer trip
They have an adventure park at top
Close enough to Rmnp and Estes park
We did a night in Estes park before vail
Mt Evans is a neat drive to top
Close enough to visit other resorts as well like Breckinridge

As noted, Salida and Buina Vista. Both 30 minutes form each other and great small mountains towns

We did Park City with a weekend in Salt Lake in June a few years ago. Loved it.

Another vote for BV.

Perfect position to explore the Upper Arkansas.

Just went to RMNP in December and it was amazing. Scenery, wildlife, & hiking. I can’t see any way that a ski town/area would beat staying in Estes Park for a few days.

agree with others that BV and Salida are nicer, less touristy, and I personally prefer those towns. BUT if you have kids, Breck is a good choice. lots of things to do to kill time there but if you're just planning on hiking, rafting and fishing then BV is a great choice.
