Shhhhhh. Only 5 in 24 hours? That means 376,971 didn't get shot in the past 24 hours. 99.9986% of residents didn't get killed since yesterday. Seems pretty safe to me.

Mid City was swamp and cow fields, and the historic border between Uptown and Downtown was Canal until the definition began to shift from the 1920s to 1960s to Calliope or the Pontchartrain Expressway.

Because murder isn’t the only crime that can be done unto someone. Odds are if you enter the city and leave your car somewhere, you have a drastically higher chance of a negative event occurring to you or your property than if you did not enter the city. Cannot argue statistics

Fwiw, a long running schtick on here is the sliver is the only part considered Uptown by those who live in the sliver.

Everything else might as well be the east.

I thought historically it divided the French part of the city from the American part

I lived there 2010-2011. I was off work by 2PM most days and this 10yo would walk my block when I got home. I ended up talking to him as he would try to bum cigarettes off me. Eventually on his 11th birthday he shot a man down the street from me in broad daylight as part of his gang initiation. I moved the next weekend and will never return to the city.

I was down there on Friday night. I was talking with some friends who were smoking outside of a music club. We see an SUV slow down about a block and a half up the street, and then gun shots coming from the car. A few minutes later, there’s police, ambulance, fire truck, the works.

Nothing like enjoying a nice casual drive-by attempted murder after a parade.

What shocked me, though, was how quickly the police came. I was honestly impressed. The last time I witnessed a drive-by in BR, it took over 45 minutes for the police to show up.

Be it domestic or whatever just happens to be true. There is a reason, but it isn't racial, so it isn't really going to make sense.

You’re asking this question on a racist board that suffers greatly from “little brother” syndrome?

Really?

It doesn’t appear like they’re trying to scare anyone about NOLA, just pointing out that it is a lot worse than it is portrayed by the mayors office, media, and those who live there.

Why would people who live there want to make it seem better than it is??? Normally just the opposite is true....normally rank and file citizens complain non-stop about crime no matter how bad or how good crime in the area is.

I would bet that the majority of people who are convinced and quick to tell others that New Orleans is a cesspool of crime where no one is safe do not live in New Orleans but live in the suburbs of New Orleans or somewhere else not remotely close to New Orleans and are scared to death of any city of any size because they suffer from irrational fears. I did business in Juarez for YEARS during the worst cartel violence ever seen in Mexico and I never once encountered any issues....but loads of folks I knew at the time were convinced I was going to be beheaded at any moment....even though they had never set foot in El Paso, let alone Juarez. The odds of being robbed or worse in New Orleans as a tourist are not great. It can certainly happen and it certainly does but its highly unlikely. Like any city there are neighborhoods that are not safe even for residents....

Well like only a hand full of unarmed black men were shot by cops in 2020. In the entire country.

At least one person ever other day is being carjacked in new or leans.

This is apples to oranges.

3 people shot in mid city and a bunch of vehicles burglarized at saints game.

This is actually a common occurrence now.
You can type that in and find those headlines on a weekly basis now.

Hey everybody, Baton Rouge and New Orkeans are the murder capital of the country.

But you are racist for thinking let’s do better.

People like you fricking suck man. I’m tired of my state being a shite stain on the country when it comes to murder.
