What NFL teams in the 1990s would've went to or won a Super Bowl if they had a true #1 WR?

Was talking to my dad about this.

Wonder what y'all would say.

I'd argued some of those Dan Marino Dolphin teams.

Houston Oilers

They had good WRs with good stats, even made some Pro Bowls. But I wouldn’t call any of them #1’s. They were functions of the system. Warren Moon was awesome.

WRs don't typically win SBs for teams.

Kickers, pash rushers and QBs do that.

The Patriots won 6 SBs with no real #1 receiver. They lost a perfect season with the best WR season I've ever seen in 2007 Moss.

I'd rather the Steel Curtain or 86 Bears front 7 than a host of WRs any day.

Steelers got there in the mid 90's with Neil O'Donnell at QB so sometimes it isn't a WR problem.

New Orleans Saints 1991 and 1992 were both good enough everywhere except they didn't have a true deep threat to make defenses play honest. A good deep threat would have been enough to put them over the top. Once they got to a Super Bowl they would have destroyed anyone in the AFC.

90s play style it wouldn’t have mattered. Games were won with running game and defense.

Cowboys didn’t win 3 out of 4 cause of Irvin. They won cause of Emmitt and the O line

Them Saints team wipe the floor with Buffalo. They actually went several seasons undefeated against the AFC.

Marino, Like Elway, had no running game nor a strong defense.

No one was beating the 91 Skins. They’re one of the best teams of all time.

The Kansas City Chiefs. Their best receiver for a number of those years was a fullback (Kimble Anders). 1995 in particular was really bad. They only had one WR who had more than 10 receiving yards in their 10-7 playoff loss to the Colts.

Its hard to argue.

They were #1 in points for.

#2 in points against.

Both were in their prime in the 80’s, and out of the league by the early 90’s.

The Dolphins were stuck with old man Irving Fryer as their best receiver for a good portion of the 90’s, then probably OJ McDuffie at the very end of Marino’s career.

But like others have stated, Miami rarely had a problem producing yards, it was the lack of both a running game and defense that was too often their downfall.

Back then, you had to be able to run the ball and play almost great defense. Your QB could put you over the top if you could run and if you could stop people. But Joe Gibbs won Super Bowls with Joe Theismann, Doug Williams and a career year from Mark Rypien. All of those teams could run the ball and played good defense.

Even the 49ers with Montana could beat you on the ground and play good or great defense. The Broncos couldn’t get over the hump with Elway because the running game was usually meh and the defense wasn’t good enough to compensate. Once they got Terrell Davis and improved their line, it changed. Same problems with the Bills in three of those Super Bowls. Defense wasn’t good enough.

Gift wrapped Dallas a win with 2 INTs with no WR around and got a nice contract afterwards.

Check your facts. The Mora era/Dome patrol Saints owned the AFC. They went 4 plus seasons without losing to an AFC team. 49ers were their divisional kryptonite.

There were a lot of key pieces to those Cowboys teams. The year after their last Super Bowl win - with Harper gone, Novacek gone, and Irvin suspended for the first five games - they started 2-3.

and Harper and Novecek. Lot's of weapons. Don't disagree with your statement though.
