I still think the outcome will be for McCarthy to work with democrats to pass a resolution stating popular vote wins. That will force the 20 to accept him or allow unified democrats to elect Jeffries.
That would be exceptionally stupid. The holdouts simply keep voting the way they are and the Republican leadership look like complete idiots.

I will not be voting for Kevin McCarthy.

I resent the extent to which he utilizes the lobbyists and special interests to dictate how political decisions, policy decisions, and leadership decisions are made.

We have zero trust in him.

I think it's hilarious when people act like they are freaking out over this process. It's working exactly as intended.

McCarthy can fix it by withdrawing

With the push for only McCarthy, something is up.

Is Potato and CumAllah short for this life or are their positions in the chain of leadership threatened?

They're trying everything in the media to get this chode in as speaker.

12th vote upcoming?

That is what Newsmax is saying.

ETA: newsmax incorrect…the vote was to adjourn, and it passed.

All about Trump. It will be more clear come Spring/Summer when the highest ranking Republican (McCarthy) is needed all across the land to denounce Trump as unfit.

How Trump doesn't see this is beyond me.

You think they are going to let someone who is MAGA hold the gavel? You think they can risk a MAGA Speaker calling out their witch-hunts?

They need a Speaker who is part of the plan. That's McCarthy. He must be installed because anyone else puts the stop Trump plan at risk.

Dear Ted Lieu,

In my life I've watched an endless parade of nincompoops from both sides of an imaginary aisle pass through Washington DC. Winners of low rent, local popularity contests they've enriched themselves, their friends and family members while squandering my hard earned captial at a rate Roman emperors would be ashamed of.

I truly and sincerely in my heart-of-hearts couldn't care less if they are never again briefed on anything, approve anything, deny anything, hear anything or oversee anything.

Exchanging every member of Congress with the dog catcher from their district of origin would simultaneously increase the quality of Congess and decrease the quality of animal control.

That is really how poorly I think of you and your colleagues.

Ok I'm with you. Now why is Trump supportive of McCarthy? Is Trump just flawed in his ability to recognize people who are going to frick him over? Hubris.

Honestly, I think this is a huge blind spot for Trump.

I think this has been well established. When it comes to DC, he has an incredibly difficult time in picking non-swampy allies.

While I think this is partially true, you also have to take something else into account: a lot of times, he was boxed in by whomever could get Senate confirmation.

“They want Trump-endorsed McCarthy - the only SOTH candidate Trump has shown support for - because they have to have someone in there who won’t support Trump”

Is really some kind of take but 100% on brand for this place

I just don’t understand why he wants to be speaker of the house so bad.

I get it. It’s a powerful and lucrative position, one that will be a legacy marker for your family for generations (in theory). Glory hunting.

But that said, people who “don’t get it” are probably pretty good people for not understanding how someone could care so much about things like that.

This conundrum is precisely the one we find ourselves in with modern-day politics. Anyone who WANTS to be in the political realm is probably desiring that office for the WRONG reasons (wealth, power, fame), while the people who are most equipped psychologically and emotionally to be good stewards of our nation are precisely the people who would never seek out the office because of the those same factors.

We're really in a bad spot that seems to be almost impossible to solve.

I honestly think Trump knows exactly what he's doing here. I don't get it, but I think it may be one of his mad genius moves that makes no sense until after the fact.

We'll see how this plays out.

I agree it’s not good, but I’ll also say it’s been that way for a while and it’s been much better controlled up to this point.

I blame the disconnect that comes from two parties who don’t really represent a huge population and the related disconnect of a population is increasingly alienated from itself. The number of potential rallying points for large swaths of the country drops every year - we have fewer and fewer shared goals. Dumb platitudes that worked in the 90s - “we all want a better future for our children” - are even less relatable now when half the country doesn’t even want children and many that do leverage their future for short term attention and vanity. When suburban neighborhoods can’t agree on basic concepts, we can’t expect California and Georgia to have any agreement on anything, and with that type of fracturing we can’t expect a population of 350m people to have any real control or impact over what narcissists in Washington do.

In short, I agree that your ideal is better, but it hasn’t been that way for a long time and we still had a more functioning country despite it.
