Why would it force him to caucus with the dems?
He might get 50 dem votes for one or two committee chairmanships.
He could do it without the republicans even knowing he did it.
If after the nomination are in for vote, dems start voting for McCarthy what are the republicans going to do? They will either vote for him too or not vote.

The Sensei gets to scream on his radio and tv shows how unpatriotic and out of touch these people are. Then he will call on Crenshaw and the other ilk of CPAC to rally for McCarthy. This is all while interrupting the guests and telling America how many jobs he has and how he's been to Texas and waterboarded.

Trump would win the people's vote, but Congress is only about themselves.

I would think any Dems he cut a deal with would just not show up for the vote and lower the number needed for him to win.

Another vote. This will continue until someone has 218 votes.

You really think those not in his inner circle would support him after he went to the dems for support? It would be suicide for them as well...
If this was a feasible option for McCarthy, he would have already done it...

I read your question before you edited.
IDK who the 2 missing are...they were missing from the first vote.

Gotcha.
I don’t know which members aren’t there.
But I believe the lower total number of those in attendance means the threshold for how many votes are needed goes down.
So maybe 217 votes now needed, rather than 218?
Pure speculation on my part.

the GOPe doesn't like Scalise

Scalise has always been the link between the Freedom Caucus and the GOPe

Mark Levin, the phony, can blow another gasket too.

Exactly.
Part of their job is to debate and vote, ma’am.
Please find your seat.

I want Scalise as much as I want McCarthy.
I get it. He’s part of the establishment. To some extent, unfortunately, we need an institutional republican. It will lend some credibility to Roy (who is clearly the brains behind this operation and who has been steadfastly reasonable).
Scalise’s pros - are that he’d probably agree to some of the most essential demands. It helps him to have less discretion - bc he can just make Gaetz the bad guy when he’s “stuck” doing shite like allowing floor debates on important bills and investigating the Deep State. The tough decisions are already made in the name of restoring order.
Furthermore - he’s not from California. I know Louisiana is bonkers, but I had a political science professor once who characterized us as liking to periodically give the bird to the rest of the country when we vote. That is accurate. SOH is wayyyy more high profile than whip- if he fricks over St Tammany on national television, he’ll have to relocate after he’s unelected.

If he and Hannity went away on the same day, I am not sure I would shed a tear...

Watch Gaetz double down in a few minutes by formally nominating Donald J. Trump.

Scalise would be a much more effective leader overall. That's my biggest complaint with McCarthy... nothing's getting passed anyway
