Instant gratification and no problem having other people take care of their responsibility. We cater to these folks

You could have said you are sick yourself. They were smart.

That's certainly where we are heading as a society - this mentality is prevalent.

Answering the phone often has nothing to do with it. If you’re already at work on Friday and they tell you your coworker called in for Sat/Sun then you’re on the hook. Calling in sick yourself would only screw your other coworkers not the original pos. It comes down to work ethic.
Well your family will remember and cherish the memories, that would be more important to me than pleasing a company or “co-workers”. I learned a long time ago family comes first, and jobs are just that. It’s why I got into teaching and coaching, so I wouldn’t have to make those decisions ever again when I was in retail management and sales.

I maintain an automated fintech system that never closes either. I can do it while laying in bed.

Just how naïve are you?

Enough to not have to concern myself with shift work.

Do you realize that doesn’t even make sense?

Don't take any on-call pay. Then you aren't obligated to be called in.

Unioned labor is why America will fail. Pensions are wrecking EBR and the Federal Government.

Back when I was in radio, we'd divide it up. You worked Thanksgiving or Christmas, but not both.

I doubt many of the modern day "shift" workers are part of unions or have much of a pension. The railroads are the only ones I can think of.

This is why I value my job so much.

I see a lot of my friends making more than me at plants and such but are constantly missing precious family time because of it.
It’s simply not worth it to me.

If he’s making that little he’s brand new. Probably closer to $150,000.
