Warm/hot water has its potential issues but the number of times I have left a hotel room with the temp near or below zero with an ice bucket filled with the hottest water I could get from the faucet is well into the dozens and to date no cracked windows. It is fun when it clears all the ice and then immediately flash freezes which is actually more likely with hot water but won't happen at 20 degrees.

The best way is to be proactive and put a windshield cover on before it freezes.

Soak it in Windex before. Just spray on a thick layer and dont wipe. Should make it come off alot easier the next day.

Get some good de-icing windshield wiper fluid after you get going too.

This is the answer. Crank it and let sit, go back in few minutes with an old gift card.

Two years ago, when we had the big freeze, I threw water on the windshield and made a MUCH thicker sheet of ice. Yeah, don't do that.

Use windshield wiper fluid after turning on the engine and letting it run for 5 minutes defroster on.

Another upvote for the spray. My wife started buying that stuff. It’s money.

The taxpayers fund my ice scraper.

You are the sucker if you buy an actual scraper.

Lived in Northern US as a transplant

Learned prevention was best way to go, garage or cover windshield if outside.
