Brown said in her announcement on Tuesday that victims experience "pain and uncertainty while individuals sit on death row—especially in states with moratoriums on executions—without resolution."
They haven't executed anyone in 25 years. If the state isn't willing to follow through it makes sense to just take it off the table. Seems like it's more difficult on victims' families keeping the option open but unused. Perhaps it will even save some money not maintaining a death row and associated appeals.

If I were the victims and their families and friends…
I think most everyone here knows what I would do to this POS woman.

The obvious money saver, of course, is executing these POS ASAP.
I bet some Progressive judge steps in and lets some of these folks out in the next decade or so.

The article says Oregon hasn’t executed a prisoner in 25 years, so not sure this is all that meaningful. Seems like a PR stunt unless there were imminent plans to resume executions.

the fairly regular occurrence of death row inmates being found innocent prevents the state from doing this.

Good.
I hate to see the government taking citizens lives.
I wonder if there will be a push to retry these cases now like there was in 2006 when Oregon changed their Death Penalty laws? I think they cut that short and closed that loophole after one of the guys still on their death row killed two young girls in separate incidents while he was being retried.
You can see what these inmates did to get on death row. Even see transcripts where the majority of the 17 confessed and even reveled in it. You're probably right though, the government should allow terminating the lives of babies if they are inconvenient, but keep alive the guy who raped and killed a 3 year old. Also the five guys who committed varying murders and assaults on kids from 8-15, they obviously deserve the state paying six figures annually to keep them alive. Priorities! Death to unwanted babies, keep alive the guy who killed a teenage couple and raped and sodomized them.
The US prison system needs to be overhauled and corrected... absolutely. The most heinous and violent members of society need to be removed from society and resources that could better society by rehabbing those that can, and lifting up those in need do not need to be wasted on them... absolutely. There are finite resources allotted to society. We cannot afford to contribute to keeping alive someone who raped and murdered children while we continue to fail children who have to rely on charity and school to be warm and eat because the EBT ran out due to improper funding, or frivolous spending, and dad is serving for strike three on possession. Spend the money on the next generation, not on those who have already cost taxpayers millions, and will only cost us more.

There have been numerous wrongful convictions and releases from death row based on DNA evidence. Numerous instances of prosecutorial misconduct that have led juries to believe guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
That is what the appeal process is for before execution.

Really no need for the Death Penalty in the USA. Other third world countries, possibly, but not the USA.
ETA: it cost a fortune to execute someone here. All their cases get automatic SCOTUS review $$$$

Nobody has been executed on Oregon for 25 years. None of these people were going to get executed.

Even the appeal process is wrought with challenges for the inmate. Give a listen to the Bone Valley podcast. While the subject of it wasn’t sentenced to death, it’s insane the courts rejected all the evidence he brought on his appeals. As far as I know, he’s still in prison while having a solid alibi and another guy confessing to the murder.

It is nearly an impossible task to overturn murder convictions on appeal. Especially if you don’t have money and had a public defender for your trial. You will quite literally need a highly skilled attorney working for free. And even if you have adequate counsel, the hoops you must jump through are circus level because everyone in jail says they’re innocent and an easy appeals process would assure the state is flooded with legal work.

Rules for thee, not for me.
However, there is another statue in every state constitution that gives governors do have the ability to pardon convicts or commute sentences. So the rules for thee, not for me thing does not really apply here.

Scary how many "small-government conservatives" around here are totally ok with the state having the authority to kill one of its own citizens.
Also, the pro-life contingent around here is only pro-life until the fetus is born. They don't give a shite beyond that.
Only scary thing here is how stupid you are.
Why make shite up? Show me an example of a thread where the general concensus of the OT is to not give a shite about a baby after it is born. There are daily threads to the contrary (against covid vax for kids, against child abuse with all ages tranny shows, etc.) Now there are some die hard supporters in those threads that are probably stupid like you on this topic, but they're like 1-2 %.
Now I'm okay with doing away with the death penalty, provided that we add daily torture to the remainder of the life without parole. Having them beg for death and not being able to receive it would be better.

I'd say sue effectively did this but not technically. For better or worse we give the executive branch of state and federal government a lot of leeway and authority on things like this.
Not my state, not my governor. It's an absurd move that presumably the majority of Oregonians voted for, so vote better I guess.
Like Ron White said, here in Texas, we put in an express lane for these ghouls.
