Many will become obsolete once the 12 team playoff starts, IMO.

How is the 12 team playoff going to work? Do some of the bigger second tier bowls (Citrus, Gator, Alamo etc.) fall into the playoffs or do they just call them the playoffs and wait until the final four and designate those as bowls?

While it may seem that way, there's a huge economic impact on even the shittiest of bowls.
There's a list of payouts for participating in each of the bowls (a number that will surprise many) and those numbers are BIG for some schools.

Hey, if there's money made and players having fun at a venue they would otherwise never play, who's to say stop? That said I may watch only about 10 games during the bowl season.

What part of "another" did you not get?

So the OP is complaining there are too many bowls, but somehow New Orleans needs a 3rd bowl because the New Orleans Bowl doesn’t have P5 tie-ins. Sounds legit.

Why does anyone care how many bowls there are? I'm ok if every team goes to a bowl. I have enough streaming services and other things to do that I can simply avoid watching the ones I don't want to watch.

It is good for the communities where played and it's a nice road trip for a bunch of college kids that work their asses off all season. In the real world, even poor performers still get vacation days.

Should be seven wins minimum to earn a bowl, I might even go 8.

I look at bowl games as a way to get ready for the next season with the extra practices, a free vacation for the players and a way to get some real game time in for young players. After the game the coaches can evaluate the needs of the team and hit the portal. If we win, it is a bonus

As I understand, many of these bowls are technically co owned by ESPN. They are considered cheap content and generate a good ROI for ESPN. I agree that there are probably twice as many bowl games as there should be, but I don't see them going away anytime soon.

I get what your saying but some bowls or games interest me. Hell has Tulane ever played USC ???

USC leads the series 2-1

1932 Rose Bowl--USC 21-TU 12
1942 TU 27 -USC 13
1946 USC 20-TU 13.

All close games. Would be nice to see a similar matchup on January 2nd. Likely many more points scored.,

I dont know, personally I cant wait for the romper that is 6-6 Miami (OH) vs. 6-6 UAB in the Hometown Lenders Bahamas Bowl in front of a crowd of about 1000 people.

Each bowl season, I play a card of about 33 games, and I always end up with a losing record. I think one season I was like 12-21 .

Just a shot in the dark here, but probably the same people that approve new bowls.

This argument started 40 years ago when they expanded to 15-16 bowls.

Don't be surprised when Bowl Committee's pay the top players to participate in exchange for their NIL. Be even less surprised when the uncertainty of these players participation fricks over their respective programs by using their leverage to drag out negotiations.

I think it should be treated like the playoffs in the NFL, if you don’t make it you will be sitting around watching like everyone else. Bowl games are pointless outside playoffs. Your younger guys can get some extra snaps but if you go out there and get smashed in a bowl game it can have the opposite effect of finishing strong and raise more questions than answers.

Other than the playoff bowls, how can these games survive financially? Can TV revenue keep these alive?

The answers are 'relatively easily', and 'absolutely'. These are not incredibly expensive, compared to alternative means of advertising and programming for the broadcasting partner and the cities that are involved.

There is a reason why there is a back log of proposed bowls just waiting for an opportunity to be created-- the NCAA literally had to create a moratorium to cap the number of bowls at 41, not 43-- and to reach that number, had to select among four candidates to be the 41st bowl. There is a waiting line for new bowls, not a death watch for existing bowls.
