I like Nuss but he doesn’t see safeties

His TD throw to Nabers and his interception both had strong safety help that he either didn’t see or ignored. He got away with it once and didn’t the other.
Good news: that’s coachable.

He made 7 throws that JD either can't make, or doesn't even see so won't make. I think you see a much lighter box for run game as well, as teams would have to hold 1-2 safeties deep to stop that cannon on his arm. Teams could load the box with JD since he keeps it 2/3, the time, and only throws it 1/3 of the time on called pass plays. Interesting to see where staff goes with qb competition in the spring

His first throw of the game should’ve been picked off

quote:I thought Boutte kind of gave up on the route that otherwise would have been a 50/50 ball. Once Boutte realized the ball was in his direction, he tried to recover the route a little late. Was hard to tell from where is was sitting in the game but either way it was not the smartest throw or best effort on both.

Nuss’ intermediate throws are exceptional, my concern are the number of 50/50 balls that are thrown by Nuss

Is any qb arm warm on their first throw of the game?

Nuss has a turnover issue, but I don't blame him for yesterday's turnovers very much. I thought he played really good and made some beautiful throws considering he hadn't played significant snaps since earlier in the season.

JD doesn't see anything. He simply runs and refuses to allow players to make plays. He was very bad to end the season. Productive drives were too few against Ark, A&M, and UGA.

He doesn’t have the arm strength.

He had two turnovers and well could have had 1 or 2 more in just over a half of play.
but the arm talent is Jamarcus like. His tendency to go for the big play almost every time - to this point in his career is Jamie Howard like which is curious for a former QB's son.
It will be interesting to see if he can be coached out of the all or nothing tendencies or will forever be the gunslinger.
Because that arm is legit.

There’s no excuses needed. Nuss is still worth more points than JD when you add in the turnover problem and it’s not even close. Go watch a Les Miles team and jerk off to the conservative approach

Nuss just needs to do a better job of moving defenders with his eyes. That comes with more in game repetition.

I’m on board because of this.
You should also acknowledge we were down 28 & a kid who hasn’t seen many live college reps was tasked with leading an SECCG comeback.

Had good ball placement on the first throw for the TD and didn’t have good placement on the INT. I agree though, have to be aware of what the safeties show pre and post snap.

That’s right. Nuss hasn’t had a lot of live in game looks on tape when there was something to play for. He played much better last night than the Auburn game. Also people don’t like the 50/50 balls he threw but that’s also the knock on JD from the WR’s. Nabors even said it after the game. He trusts us to go make plays. You’re going to throw a pick with that philosophy here or there but as we saw you get some explosive plays as well and score points.
