Speaking of Philosophy, Pragmatism.
To answer your question, that’s what I would use.
Start with outcome desired, the long view
From my own experience, the school brand nor ideologies were nearly as important in comparison to who I was at 18yo.
State school or not, work hard, lead others with great care and be curious and good chit happens.

Why would you want to send your kid to a commie indoctrination camp…and pay a shite ton for it? Votech at the local CC for the win.

30 years ago, yes. Today? frick no.
Stanford, MIT are all just as good. In addition, the big 2 (Harvard & Yale) have really declined on a social scale in the last decade - so many cucks & libs.
Money isn’t everything,
especially when they are trying to indoctrinate.

My son has a similar resume. 35 ACT, national merit finalist 4.5 gpa and some extra curricula’s. He’s not even interested in the $$$ schools. He’s looking at the $$$ the state schools in the region are offering and the six figures in his 529 and salivating. Probably going to Bama for the 5 year full ride STEM/MBA program. If he were interested in IVY or one of the more prestigious schools I imagine we’d figure out how to make it work. I’d support what he wanted to do and has earned hoping he’d stay STEM but that’s not the way his mind works.

What schools do they have in mind for him?

If my kids got accepted to an Ivy League or any elite school I would absolutely pay for it. It would be pretty shitty to hold your kid back from success.

I think his parents should spend more time steering him towards a better career path than worrying about liberal indoctrination. I think the latter is somewhat overblown and if the kid has a good head on his shoulders, he can get past it.

I assume, in this scenario, your nephew's parents are rich enough where payment is required. Princeton is totally free (tuition, room & board) if a family makes up to $100k LINK. I'm pretty sure Harvard and Yale operate in a similar way.
I have a cousin who graduated from Yale within the last 10 years. She comes from a conservative family, very religious. I believe she attended some summer math programs either there or at MIT while she was in high school. Her faith didn't get shaken, she didn't become some sort of "woke liberal".
At the end of the day, if I had a child who was accepted to an Ivy I would send them. It opens so many doors that most likely wouldn't be available to them otherwise.

Depends on the degree program kid was interested in.

Your sister sounds insane

If your nephew is a conservative with a strong will, he’ll thrive in knocking down unsupported leftist opinions in these universities. He should read about Peter Thiel’s college experience. That dude was the smartest person in the room and actively was throwing blows against his entire class and the entire teaching staff and well known for being the smartest person in the room at Stanford, despite being a staunch conservative
But your sister and her husband are naive if they don’t agree with your opinion that most good universities are going to attempt to indoctrinate, especially in philosophy

Yes, without question.

Probably not and for the exact same reasons. In all fairness, nearly all college campuses are turning into indoctrination camp infected with liberal mind rot.

This caused a lot of tension at thanksgiving and is clearly making their boy distraught. My nephew seems pretty set on going to an IVY (if he gets in) no matter the debt he will incur,
Poor fricking him

I’ll do everything (responsibly) in my power so that my daughter can live her best life and be happy herself not live the life I have planned for her. Any Christian knows that it’s Gods plan that matters not theirs but radicals on either side are just that, radical and illogical.
