Nobody would have a problem with USC being ranked in front of LSU tonight. But keep that same idea of moving a team up when they beat a ranked team (#15 UCLA) compared to what could be (#1 Georgia). No team would have two better wins than LSU.

They don’t understand how this works !! The committee has shown that it is highly impressed with LSU up to this point !!

You're right. And it is also the only time a 2 loss conference champion was in position to be selected. The committee chose instead for a 1 loss team that didn't even play in the conference championship game.

Now, in 2017 there was no doubt 2 loss Auburn would have been selected had they beat Georgia in the SECCG. But they had all of the momentum rising up the CFP polls by beating #1 Georgia and #1 Alabama in the final 3 weeks of the season before the SECCG. LSU isn't necessarily riding that wave of success.

I still find it difficult a 2 loss SEC champion LSU with wins over Alabama and Georgia would be left out. But the committee is inconsistent if nothing else.

So two other 1-loss P5 champions (ACC and Pac12) are getting left out for 1)a 1-loss uga that didn't win anything, and 2)a 2-loss LSU?

that isn't happening

Why as of the latest poll is LSU ahead of both USC and Clemson?

No one can say at this point if LSU beats UGA that they know who will be in and who will be out. There are too many variables in that scenario, to be certain.

The only certain is big 10 champ and TCU if they win out, after that it’s just a guess.

Listen. UGA is in no matter what so the decision wouldn't be between 12-1 UGA and 11-2 LSU. It'd be between 11-2 LSU and 12-1 Clemson or 12-1 USC or 11-1 Michigan.

Here are predicted final records if LSU wins:

*Ohio State/Michigan winner 12-0
*TCU 13-0
UGA 12-1
*USC 12-1
*LSU 11-2
*Clemson 12-1
Ohio State/Michigan loser 11-1
*Oregon if wins PAC12 with 11-2

* = conf champion

disagree, I think the Committee analyzes a ton of data to try to make a good decision.

Truth is, if we beat UGA but don't get in the playoffs, it's because we have 2 losses. The 1-point loss to FSU was ages ago and is forgivable, but the terrible loss to Tenn (at home) would be what kills us. UGA dominated Tenn.

Also the SEC champion is way bigger than a Pac 12 conference champion

No need to have any worries about any of that unless we beat Georgia. If we beat Georgia, then you can start worrying. But it’s a non-thing at this point

PAC is at a huge disadvantage because Ga blew out Oregon and Fla beat Utah.

And Clemson will point out that LSU lost to an ACC team. In other words, this is a lot more nuanced than "win out and we are in". It isn't that simple.

agreed, but 2 losses vs. 1 loss.

And there's probably a bit of SEC fatigue with the Committee, so a traditional name like USC winning the Pac-12 with only 1 loss (a 1-point loss on the road at a good Utah team), and having the no. 2 offense in the nation is bound to get a lot of attention.

I mean, if we really want the best 4 teams, pick 3 from the SEC and then Ohio State.

But the Committee can't do that.

You guys got throttled at home by a team in UT who just gave up 63 points as a 20 pt. favorite in one of the most historic upsets in CFB history. That loss by UT coupled w/them throttling LSU in BR is gonna be seen as way worse then if Georgia loses close to LSU in the SECCG.

And the Dawgs dominated UT.

IOW, the Dawgs are in regardless.

We can't change the past, only win out and see where the chips fall.

LSU has two games left. One is against a shitty A&M team that may play us hard, but we need to blow them out. UGA speaks for itself. USC has 2 ranked teams left to play. #13-ish ND & likely #10 Oregon. It will be real hard to drop USC after winning those two games.

At this moment, Tennesse does. LSU has two losses that look worse than anyone else as well. Hold your nose and keep pulling for Tenn & Florida State b/c that Ole Miss win doesn't look as impressive as it did a few weeks ago.

Do you think people would believe that Georgia is better than LSU after just getting beat by them in the SEC championship? What would be more relevant than just beating them in a very pro- Georgia crowd? The loss in the first game of the season isn’t enough of a separation in my opinion.

Not saying this will happen, but a GA loss similar to UT-SCAR could cast some serious doubt.

Not everything is as simple as a head-to-head. Right now Tennesse is ranked below LSU and Bama despite beating them both and having the same record. Yes timing matters, but LSU needs help and a solid win over UGA.

I'm a different poster than who you responded to, but I have no idea why everyone seems to think it's etched in stone we're in regardless if we beat tech. There simply is zero historical precedent to suggest that's true.

Pepole are going to break their necks to point out "well just look at last year!!!!" while ignoring the fact that last year we made it becuse there were no other 1 loss P5 champs to put in our place. I fully believe that if OkSt hadn't been upset and won the big 12 with 1 loss they'd have gone but there's no way to prove that. This year if we lose and you've got champions of the ACC and Pac both with 1 loss, (in addition to 2 loss SEC champ LSu) I would not feel great at all about our chances.
