A senior employee at the RTA has been placed on administrative leave after a report that she simultaneously held a top job at a transit agency in Tampa.

Teri Wright, a senior director of communications for the agency, has been put on paid leave “until further notice,” according to an RTA spokesperson.

While earning a $155,000 salary for the RTA, Wright was also allegedly working as a $200,000-per-year chief customer experience officer for the Hillsborough Area Regional Transit Authority, according to a report Monday in the Tampa Bay Times.

Officials with both agencies said they didn’t know that Wright had held two full-time jobs since April, according to the newspaper. Outside employment requires RTA approval, and an RTA spokesperson said Monday that the agency was unaware that Wright was doing double duty.

And everyone in charge of managing her should be fired as well.

If you don't have enough oversight of your direct reports to know they are working half time or less, you aren't doing your job.

She's very well paid in both jobs, which also illustrates the change in how government employment operates. Years ago, the philosophy was that government jobs paid below market but made up for the lower pay with lavish retirement benefits.

Now, they are often paid above market and still receive the lavish retirement benefits (which is why so many government retirement plans are not fully funded).

Any of course they made recent changes to the RTA routes but certainly didn’t add more buses or drivers so they helped some people where they now have closer routes and don’t have to walk as far but screwed over others who previously had good choices

I might be able to login a different email for a few minutes a day and 'work on some projects" for Tampa. Looking to apply now

A friend used to handle workers compensation claims for the RTA & she discovered that active / working employees would call & let the "injured" employees know when her company would be sending out private investigators to check up on those employees. Some had moved out of state & were working another job while receiving W.C. benefits. Had been going on for years.
