Smart decision would be to let JV walk. I don't bet on 40 year Olds to sustain success for very long. He will never be as good as he was this year again.

First domino that needs to fall is JV. If he’s back it opens up a ton of possibilities in the trade market. Should be able to get a pretty damn good bat for Urkel or Luis.

I’d like Montero back too but I bet somebody overpays to get him.

what I expect....

Either Yuli or Brantly returns as DH /spot starter
then sign a free agent starter to replace the one you don't sign. OF or 1B

resign Verlander
Montero
extend bullpens arms where appropriate.

Let the M's catch up

if Click is semi aggressive

I had my concerns on Pena, ( Im sorry) but if the front office can pull another gem from the system...

is Yanier ready? if so that saves $ at first.

Korey needs up all year as a backup and be a starter by end of the year

if the answer is no on both, find a vet C (Contreas) sp

or does Yordon switch to 1b ? if he does then that is added info on who to resign Brantly/Yuli

OF is where we should see the most changes, the only set piece is RF, leaving CF and LF ( if Yordan 1B?)

Meyers, Chas one can start, 1 becomes the 4 OF ( can Jake play 1B, the arm wouldn't be an issue)

sign a FA vet with good bat OF'er

if we resign Verlander and brought back Brantly or Yuli to DH and spot start I could see staying pat
and hope that the Space Cowboys can provide the answers, make deadline deals and do it again with basically the same team

unless a stud bat reaches out to us I dont see any real reason to spend $$$ other than resigning JV, if he signs elsewhere save the $$ for a deadline deal with control

The more I’ve thought about it I think so too. You could get a Rizzo and Profar for what JV is going to cost and the rotation is deep as hell. I just don’t see Crane doing that though

If they can move a Garcia or Urquidy for a controllable young OFer to replace Brantley though that would be great (assuming JV is back)

I'd like to see JV back on a short deal. I think he has a year or two left. If it Garcia or Urquidy, in that order, that left, that'd be fine. I hope a full season of Javier in the rotation would be as glorious as the postseason was.

I'd love to see Brantley come back on a short deal, but a three-year deal might be too much. They've got to upgrade the offense somewhere, though.

I worked downtown on the route in 17, which was awesome. We could go down to the street but use the facilities in our building and had a great view from our offices 20 floors or so up. Was great for my coworkers who had families come in town

This is my situation as well Took park and ride in, drops me at the door of my building. It won’t start up again until 4 so I’ll just work until then and things should be cleared out.

Congrats on the title. The Astros have one hell of an organization and their ability to consistenly develop hitters out of the farm system is spectacular.

I think Brantley is gonna be limited to one or two year offers. He’s an interesting FA case and I could see us waiting late in the market and bringing him back if his market doesn’t materialize

A cheaper 1B option I like is Brandon Belt, who we could platoon with Yainer/Hensley/Yuli if he comes back against LHP. Belt has mashed RHP in the past but was hurt and struggled this year so he should be cheaper.

I think JV goes out for Max Scherzer money. (2 years/$87 million)

I'd love to see him back with the Astros but he may feel like he's accomplished enough at this stage pushing him to take the biggest offer instead of prioritizing fit/winning.

I'm sure he wants to win but he's already a Hall of famer. Im sure he's looking to maximize his last 2-3 years and then move on from his baseball career.

I think JV wants to win. At his age, there's no time to chance on a rebuild. So while the Angels and Rangers would likely have big interest, they're not there. So what's that for contenders who would pay him that money?

Would he go to the Dodgers? JV and Kate used to live in LA but sold their home there and moved to Florida. Does that signal anything?

Braves don't need him. Phillies? Padres? Yankees?

2 for 80 million with a club option on the 2nd year for Verlander I would have zero complaints.

I'm hoping what you said would kick him back to us instead of going for the most money to pitch for a team that might not be ready to win yet. I'd give him a 2-year deal and draw the line there. We have some salary room, I think, so I'd go as far as I could on the dollars.

I just wouldn't want to give him the third year. If someone else wanted to do that, I'd let him walk.

Feels like if Crane forces the issue to re-sign JV and pays him market value then he needs to be willing to go into the tax next year. Especially with all the extra money from the World Series runs and then all of the sell outs for ring nights that they’re going to do next year.

I think JV is chasing numbers and some of the numbers he’s chasing has to do with wins so if that’s true he could be willing to take a small discount to stay in a winning organization rather than go be on a super mediocre Rangers or Angels team

2 years for 80 mil or so seems about right.

That's high, considering his age. He was at $25M this year. I also think he's wanting more than two years, he wants to pitch until he's 45 and win 300 games.

I'd give him that chance, 4/$100M with a mutual option for a 5th. And even that seems nuts for a 40 year old pitcher.

The smart play here is to let him finish his career elsewhere, but this last deal was favorable to us. If he comes in under value, I could see it happening.

Either way, it shouldn't hinder us from improving the team. His money would allow us the freedom to go in many directions, but our surplus of starting pitchers could get that done with a different path

Problem is the Astros have no gm. Crane is doing the GM job. GM is probably already clearing out his office. Crane is not a MLB GM but he's entering the Jerry Jones zone now. Resigning JV to 40 million per is an idiotic decision.

We also need to get a long term deal done with Framber

Something like 5/125

Considering what is owed LMJ, I would consider that a steal for Framber

We're never getting our monies worth out of LMJ

Yuli was getting his shite together at the end of the year and into the playoffs, so I'm kinda on board with him coming back for a year - just keep him at the bottom of the lineup instead of the two hole that Dusty hardhead had him in for most of the season.
I want JV back. Pay that man - the only way I'd not be upset about him leaving is if he goes back to Detroit to finish out his career.
I want Uncle Mike back. Pay that man.
Mancini would be awesome - I'm on board with him staying. Not really sure what the market would be for him but I'm sure he is like Vaz and wants to play everyday. Can't blame him if he walks.

Will Smith can gtfo.

I think he’s dead serious about 300 wins. I don’t think he gets there, but he’s gonna try. No idea what the right deal is because his performance is unprecedented.

A 3rd year is a big risk but I’m assuming that’s what he’ll want. He was willing to sign his last deal with the inning stipulation, maybe he’d be ok doing that again.

In a perfect world he’d just go a year at a time but kinda hard to ask him to do that after how good he was.
