Because Covid, the flu and pneumonia were all counted as Covid. It was right there in black and white in every chart the cdc and Louisiana put out.
Also, every pneumonia death was counted in that too. In 2019 I think we averaged 5k deaths nationally per month. In 2020 those all became Covid deaths.

Everyone saying that masking and hand washing kept the flu at bay last year is laughable.
Most states, including Louisiana, had lifted the mask mandate by the time flu season started last year. People had returned to normal.

IDK but it is terrible and way worse than any covid we dealt with in our home. Day 4 and finally my kid's fever broke. Now she is coughing up shite and is so congested in the nose.

Pre Covid-19 we had severe and mild flu seasons, so I am not sure why this would surprise anyone. Plus the flu (and other viruses) depends on international travel to affect new areas. Plane travel was all but shut down for the longest time.

know a lot of people that’ve had the flu this year. Its spreading fast and wide. There’s a lot going around LSU right now.
After 2 years of people suppressing their immune systems with masks, distancing, and hand washing, we’re more vulnerable than we’d otherwise be.
