My new employer is giving me $500 to outfit my home office. I am looking for a new chair and would be interested in brands/styles that others like. I’ve looked at Herman Miller but would like to keep it a bit below their price point. Appreciate any thoughts or feedback.

Whatever you get, make sure you upgrade to the Rollerblade wheels. That's the ticket.

Either go very cheap $100

or very expensive $600

Tried to stay within budget on the Steelcase Leap. They're great chairs and worth every penny, but you can't find a new one for less than $1000.

Personally, I'd get the $100 chair and see if you like it. It's actually not bad. I use them at work from time to time and it's comfortable enough. Just doesn't support you like the professional chair does.

At that price point, the HON Ignition 2 is a really solid chair that is well made and comfortable for all day work. I have a mid back with the headrest and it’s a solid working chair.

Understood, but you won't find a better non-executive office chair than the Aeron* but it can get really expensive if you load up on options.

*unless you buy upper-level Steelcase but the WorkLounge makes the HM look inexpensive.

Go to Office Depot and do the butt test in their Serta chairs or the Shaq brand chairs. But whatever you acquire, do the in person butt test. Sort of how you buy a sofa, lay down on it and see if you can take a nap.

Y’all confirmed my initial take. My mother, who worked from home from 2003-2017 swears by her Aeron, spending 12 hours a day in it. I think I’ll just pay up and get a refurb since I’ll only be at home 2-3x a week.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback!
