Confused about the “non” fumble last night.

Call of a fumble reversed = Indisputable evidence showing it was an incomplete pass and not a fumble.
The ball landed BEHIND the QB, it went backwards. So even if it is ruled a pass, it’s a backwards pass which is a fumble. No?

It looked to me like it was stuffed coming off of the qbs hand.

They’d probably explain it away as a batted down pass that went behind the Qb, but when AR’s arm started moving forward it was already without the football even touching his throwing hand.
Total BS call.

His arm was not coming forward and it was a fumble. Definitely not a play that should be overturned after being called a fumble on the field.

quote:no. Richardsons arm was coming forward (barely) so when we knocked it out of his arm, it was an incomplete pass. Tipped passes don’t convert a forward pass to a backward pass.

The replay got it right. it was very, very close, but the right call.

Those rules don't count when the pass it interfered with via contact (with the QB or the ball after the throw like a batting).

Indisputable is the key word. What ever the original ruling on the field was should have stood. I never saw the ball move on the Brian Thomas sideline play either. Not to the point you over turn it either.

No, it is treated like a batted pass, if the hand is moving forward, it's a forward pass. And the hand was moving forward despite the bellyaching by some of the ranters.
I made a gif of the slow motion they showed after the pass. That seems crystal clear to me that his hand was moving forward, even though I hated it.

As per the rules, no.
It's dumb. The ball was dislodged before it left the QBs hand and went backwards. But, because his arm was moving forward, it is considered a forward pass.

Is it a lateral when a DL bats a pass down and it ends up behind the QB? No, it’s not. The arm was ever so slightly moving forward so it was the correct call

It looked to me, as usual, they wanted to keep people watching the game to generate revenue for sponsors, or to shave points.

Both overturns were wrong, but I was much more pissed about the BTJ catch.

The call should have been called "play stands". There was not enough video evidence to overturn IMO.

This is the college rule of when a pass starts:
This rule should be changed. "Intentional" is subjective. How does the ref know that the intentional forward movement of the hand or arm was a pass an not a pump fake?
The rule should be that the pass commences once the ball leaves the passers hand regardless of hand and arm motion.
ETA: after reading further the umpire ruled incorrectly. The forward pass has to meet two criteria after a defensive player hits the ball:
1. after forward movement begins (for argument sake let's say this criterion was met)
AND (notice the rule uses the conjunction and...very important).
2. the ball leaves the passer’s hand (this criterion was never met).
The umpire ruled incorrectly by rule. The ball never left AR15's hand. That was a fumble caused by Perkins.
quote:
When a Team A player is holding the ball to pass it forward toward the neutral zone, any intentional forward movement of his hand or arm with the ball firmly in his control starts the forward pass. If a Team B player contacts the passer or ball after forward movement begins and the ball leaves the passer’s hand, a forward pass is ruled regardless of where the ball strikes the ground or a player

You described it perfectly. The ball never left his hand until it was knocked backwards so either way it is a live ball. Terrible call, the refs were awful down the stretch.

Still pissed about the no catch call.

From what I understand from the rules I read, when a QB’s arm is moving forward, it doesn’t matter where the ball goes, it is an incomplete pass if it hits the ground. All other rules excluded. ( Lateral, etc. ).
