After years of neglect, the CP is setting up a new tax, more regulation, and bureaucracy.

The story is the Feds are forcing us to take immediate action, and if not we will be fined. Does that sound familiar? It should because that’s the strategy used to get a sewer fee started. Now it balloons higher and higher each year with no end in sight.
This article from the Advocate says it well; LINK
It’s a pay site, but it’s a must read for EBReans who see our local government neglecting important issues like flooding, police and homelessness; while they create more and more government at a higher and higher cost to tax payers.
The article says property owners will be charged based on square footage of concrete. How expensive is that going to be? How many people will be necessary to check that? How many consultants and engineering firms will be needed to measure the concrete in EBR?
Per the article EBR had been in violation of federal law since 2008. So did 14 years we’ve neglected taking in this issue and now there’s a do or die deadline???? Thank you Mayor Broome.

I'm not paying for an Advocate subscription, so for those of you who do, can you copy and paste that article?

Don’t use that abbreviation for City-Parish. It’s a common abbreviation for images that excite pedos. You might end up on an FBI watch list.

When creating a stormwater utility district that will require residents to pay a new fee, East Baton Rouge Parish leaders trumpeted its benefits for preventing floods and cleaning up waterways.
But some Metro Council members asked: Why are we being asked so urgently to create this district before we can tell residents how much the fee will cost? The answer is now clear: The federal government is pushing the city-parish to do something to fix its troubled stormwater system, and it is threatening a potentially costly consent decree if it doesn't do so.
The utility district is Baton Rouge’s last-ditch attempt to avoid federal action in the coming weeks, city-parish spokesman Mark Armstrong said.
Interesting to know feds are involved
There was a thread last week on the metro council voting on this
quote:
The Louisiana Legislature passed a bill this year that allows municipalities to charge utility fees that fund stormwater management programs for litter abatement and flood prevention.
quote:
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome’s administration will ask the Metro Council to approve an agreement between the city of Baton Rouge and East Baton Rouge Parish to create the utility during its meeting on Wednesday.
Creating a fee under the utility district will require a separate vote, but that is expected by the end of the year, city-parish spokesman Mark Armstrong said.

There was another article dated 9/26 that paints a clearer picture of what is going down.

It’s the same old story with government. They mismanage, waste, and squander the resources and money they have for decades.
Then, it’s up to the taxpayer to bail them out.
Anybody who votes for more taxes over and above what we already have is foolish.
It’s unsurprising Raiford is involved in this. He was one of the architects of your Sewer impact fee that has done nothing but go up for the last 20 years.

It wouldn't be very difficult at all. I can measure your roof, driveway, yard size etc using google earth

No doubt, but you have to measure all properties, document your findings and compile all the information.

The property tax records already have this information

And you’d have to measure each property and verify the legal description, the owner, etc.
There are thousands of these properties and while I know you could go it all in one day, govt, workers don’t work that fast and private contractors who are friends of the mayor don’t work that cheap.

All that info is already included on the property tax record that is used to determine your annual property tax.
Zillow gets their home square footage and lot size from tax records

Yet, they are approving 1,000 home DR Horton subdivisions and saying infrastructure isn't an issue.

Exactly.
They've stolen and/or pissed away all the money they're supposed to be using to maintain the infrastructure while continually overloading the already stressed infrastructure and their only solution is to charge us more to get the same shitty, inefficient services they're providing now.

Maybe BRAC needs a canvassing trip.
The Advocate can write predictable articles that miss the mark and cite “experts” who aren’t really experts respected by those in the industry.
Meanwhile, our leaders will craft a largely unworkable solution that soaks taxpayers with a large bill now and another large bill in the future because yet another solution didn’t work.
The Feds will allege we violated the civil rights of certain populations even though the policies will be crafted by a largely minority leadership. The EPA will create more costly mandates that deprive us of needed monies to actually do meaningful work.
The city will continue heading in the wrong direction.

What the hell? It's an abbreviation for a lot of shite. Pretty telling that you chose that one to see.
