Shea on 11AM kick

Thought this was pretty news worthy for all those complaining about LSU, Woodward, the SEC, etc etc:
LINK
Further explanation from Shea: LSU is pretty upset with the decision. Woodward and some higher ups in the SEC were pushing to get this game into one of the CBS slots. But ultimately it's CBS's call, and like networks always do, they made their own decision.
Apparently CBS wanted Georgia in one of the two slots because they would not have Georgia on CBS again until Week 8, the Florida game. CBS wanted to get the #1 team in the nation on their network before that game.
He also touched on the recruiting a tad, essentially saying LSU had banked on bringing a ton of guys in on visits for this game (mainly the #10 player in the country, Nyckoles Harbor) but being it's now an 11AM kick, it will be hard for guys to get here after playing on Friday night, unless they're already in state.

#LSU’s home game next week vs No. 8 Tennessee is set for 11 a.m on ESPN…
Hearing the SEC pushed for LSU-Tennessee to get into the 2:30 or 7 pm slots.
CBS went the other way with the double-header. They decided to pair UGA-Auburn with Bama-TAMU.

We(LSU and the SEC) signed on the dotted line already. Nobody to blame but ourselves

So basically CBS raw dogged us on homefield advantage AND recruiting visits. Nice.

Why wouldn’t CBS want a competitive game over seeing UGA be up 38-6 at the half.

Bc they are team Big 10 now (officially no SEC in 2024). Is Ohio St playing Mich St at 2:30?

Oh, and CBS is a lame duck with their SEC football contract expiring after next season. So they don't care what the SEC wants.

I'm curious how the ratings work. If someone is browsing through channels and watch 1 minute of the game that's a view? Is it the number of viewers when the game starts? Finishes?
I'm honestly just not sold that non SEC, non Georgia-Auburn fans, will really give a rats arse about that game. But people may be interested in seeing Brian Kelly and LSU, people may be interested in seeing this Tennessee program, that hasn't been nationally relevant in two decades, etc etc.

CBS just wants to advertise that they will have the number 1 and number 2 teams on that day. Our fans overthink all of this.

Then maybe don't blow a game to Florida State in week one. There are consequences.

More importantly, it should be competitive. Nothing makes me change the channel quicker than a blowout score. I'll watch mid-majors in a close game, but not 1 minute of the #1 team up by 40.

CBS is a joke good riddance

Man I hope the weather isn’t as hot as satans butthole.
A crisp cool day would liven that crowd up more.

Georgia is the current #1 team and defending national champ. They are also the biggest "draw" in a state with 10.5 million people. Tennessee is a program that has been "down" for the better part of a decade in a state that has 4 million less people than Georgia.
Perhaps to provide a little perspective lets look at the numbers from 9/17/22:
12:00 pm (EDT) start: Georgia v South Carolina. Rating - 1.7; viewers 3.00 M
6:00 pm (EDT) start: Miss. St v LSU. Rating - 1.6; viewers 3.06M
I think most would argue the MSU v. LSU game looked like a much more competitive matchup than UGA v. USC (and it was). However, the viewership numbers for the two games were nearly identical. This, despite LSU playing a "Saturday night in Death Valley" and UGA playing a noon start in South Carolina. Both games were on ESPN, so it's not like CBS's national reach played any role in the viewership (Auburn v. Penn St was far and away the highest rated game that day).
LSU seemed to have the "better" opponent and the more desirable time slot. Yet, essentially the same amount of people watched each game. Or in other words, LSU's more desirable opponent and time slot relative to Georgia's didn't matter much at all

According to their explanation, it wouldn't have mattered if LSU had won the FSU game. If the #1 team is what they want, UGA would still be #1 and not us.
