Do you do the whole whip up the shaving cream thing too? I mean if you're going to go for it, you might as well go all the way, right?

Right now I do, yeah. I use a double edge safety razor with shaving soap. A straight razor is the next leap

Yep, Pre 1890 Wade and Butcher from Sheffield. Not an issue keeping sharp if you treat it right.

I've tried it, but I stick to the safety/double edge razors. Also can turn into an expensive hobby pretty quick.

You'd have to apply extreme effort to actually hurt yourself with one. Like start trying to saw your head off with it. Otherwise, worse thing thatll happen is some nicks and razor burn.

Is what everyone should be doing regardless of how they shave. Its very easy and a jug of shaving soap is wayyyyyy cheaper than the foam in a can shite. It lasts a very long time and works just as good.

I have one but only use it on the weekends. Takes me too long to be my daily shave.

My grandfather had a lifelong scar on his face from "playing" with his father's straight razor when he was a small boy.

looks stupid trying to keep sharp.

They make them where you essentially have disposable blades like a safety razor but then it's like just use a safety razor.

I use a double edge safety razor I got from the Art of Shaving about 10 years ago. It's heavy as heck and made by Merkur. It's about $80 and allows you to adjust the blade position, unlike some others.

I have been wanting to make the switch to a straight blade but trying to shave my lips seems like an insurmountable challenge.

The rest of my face I have no issues but even the barbers all suck at shaving lips (that I been to). Seems like one slip and I end up looking like a Joker parody.

So even though I want to make the jump, I just can't. Gives me a reason to still enjoy an old school shave when I can find it.

This is probably the best safety razor on the market IMO

I do, but not for shaving.

A single blade leads to less irritation. Think about it, with a 3 or 5 blade disposable, every swipe you make is like running that straight razor over your face 3-5 times. I used to straight razor shave but fell out of the habit. It feels manly af, there's way less irritation, and it's a nice zen like routine.

Having said that my straight razor has a rounded edge and not a square edge, not sure how smooth that'd be.

no clue and i dont use one, was just saying....the mindset of something works fine so why change is kind of dumb.

alot of people like safety razors because they dont like the hair and cut below the skin which is why people get bumps. I would imagine straight razor is similar.

It isn't that bad.

Eta: if you're an outdoorsman, its kinda like skinning a deer around that back tendon while the deer is hanging from it. You just have to have a really sharp knife and know where the point is.
