I know we're getting deep into useless expensive hobbies territory here, but does anyone use a straight (or "cutthroat") razor to shave their face? If so, which one?

I'm looking at a 6/8 Boker square point like the one below

I use one with replaceable blades, but only on my cheek line. Its much easier for me to line it up than with a traditional multi blade razor.

This is the one I have:

They scare the shite out of me.

Makes me feel like I'll accidentally slit my throat.

That’s a step too far for me. I moved to a Henson Shaving single blade safety razor. Honestly, it’s been awesome.

That said, a lot of it depends on the type of shaving cream or soap that you use.

I am too scared to try. I watched too many old mobster movies growing up.

I use a single blade safety razor, straight razors are a bit of a leap for me. Boker makes great blades, especially at their German factory. Their Chinese-made knives are far inferior.

It does not have to be expensive, but you might get the collector bug and start trying to find antique razors. That could be fun.

I use disposable plastic razors to shave. It works just fine. Why over complicate stuff?

I haven't used a razor in 5+ years but back when I did shave it was with a straight razor. There are some merits to it, like never buying blades. My beard is super thick and course and it works well for that. Keeping them sharp is a pain in the arse and it takes a while, so if you're a shave every day person it might be best saved for the weekends. I got really good at it and could knock it out quickly. It isn't difficult at all.

I dont remember what I used exactly but a square point like that seems like a great way to end up looking like you just lost a fight with a jaguar. Mine looked like the back of that blade on both ends.

you have a neck beard? gross.

I have a safety razor for my neck and cheeks. Much better than disposables. and after a few weeks it cheaper too.

i bought this when it was a daily deal. LINKthe single blade as extremely sharp and cheap to change out. i also feel you can go for many more strokes before cleaning it out compared to a disposable. The hairs get pushed back past the blade without sticking like on a disposable.

Your wife will think its amazing.

You do feel manly af while doing it. It's like pissing off a mountain or getting an old car engine to crank. Just kinda seems right.

It's an experience when you first start doing it. Not quite as visceral as shaving on a mountain with your skinning knife after 10 days in the woods, but you can kinda imagine that's what you're doing
