Need to buy another. Had an electric but it finally crapped out after many years. Advantages vs disadvantage of both?
Thx

I have a gas and would stick with gas if I had to replace. I already have 5 Dewalt batteries so I will buy a dewalt one just for limbing during the season if I’m setting up a new blind.

I have a craftsman gas one that worked well. Had it hanging off the side of the sxs one day and now it’s a 90 degree saw

Dewalt pole saw does a lot of work.
If you need a gas saw, I think you know you need a gas saw. If you don't know, then electric will probably do the job. They are super light and super cheap compared to a gas saw. A couple of batteries will drop more limbs than you care to pick up.

I’ve got a ryobi electric one and it works for pretty much everything I need it for.

Bought a Lynx 40v from harbor freight and it's a beast. Love that saw and much lighter than gas

Ask to borrow a gas one and run it for a couple of hours!!
Them suckers will wear you out faster than a 27in chainsaw!

Have a kobalt with 2 batteries, paid for itself many times over. Very convenient for shooting lanes

Home Depot rents Echo gas ones. It's a beast. If you're a small baw I would look elsewhere though. Will get alot of work done but will kick your arse after so long. You can try it at least.

Gota 40v kobalt. Would never buy gas again. I use the hell out of this thing. And cuts everything I need. My dad went and bought one after he saw it used. Nothing like cranking every time you need it. Not mixing gas, etc

My Hooyman is about 5 yrs old and hasn’t given me a lick of trouble. I’d buy again. The battery will outlast you.

Milwaukee Tool electric

I weighed the options last year and figured a gas would be best when I’m out in the middle of nowhere cutting limbs in shooting lanes.

Electric
Con
Limited by cord length
Advantage
Cheaper
Hang on shelf and get out a year later usually cranks
Battery
Pro
- buy into a battery system where you use batteries for other tools to keep the batteries charged.
- no cord to limit use
Con
- heavier battery unit can be cumbersome to handle
- if this is the only unit running the battery can run out of juice and have to wait for it to charge.
- typically if a battery sits it will go down quicker vs batteries rotated in other tools you use more
- cost is typically more expensive

Have a Greenworks 40 volt pole saw. Battery life is very long. Have the 40 volt chainsaw also to supplement my gas Sthil. So easy to just put a battery in, add chain oil and pull the trigger! Works every time no matter how long it’s been between uses. Very pleased with both.
