The day Fournette almost left LSU

Against Wisconsin early in his career, Fournette said to himself, “‘I’m about to do my thing,’ thinking it’s like high school. So I come in there, 6 carries, 20 yards. The first time in my life anyone ever called me a bum on the Internet.”
quote:
Fournette recalled that after that disappointing game, he told long-time LSU assistant coach Frank Wilson that he would transfer, which was an important conversation because Fournette said, “Coach Frank is like my second father.” Fournette shared that Wilson told him, “Your time is coming.”
quote:
Grace of God, my coach, my family, I stayed, I prospered,” Fournette said.

One rough outing and he wanted to transfer that badly?

Kenny Hilliard balled out late in the 4th through holes you could drive a semi through. It would have been cool to see Fournette beast out but Les wasn't going to put the ball in a true freshman's hands late in the 4th down a score.

I was in NRG for that opener against Wisconsin. I was also excited to see what Fournette would do but I was a bit surprised in his lack of productivity. Was an outlier of a game where on the season LSU was arse in the passing game but for some reason in that one we couldn't be stopped.
Game looked pretty bleak at halftime, almost got into a fight with a drunk, restless LSU fan.
Glad LF7 stayed, the man ran angry.

You gotta listen to the interview. At that point he had probably never had a bad game his entire life. #1 recruit in the country and he got shut down on national tv in his first game. Probably didn’t know how to handle it

They’re 18 years old. Away from home for the first time with, what feels like to them, the eyes of the world upon them.
I highly doubt this is an unusual feeling for freshmen.

I don't know why this made me laugh but it did. Mostly because even the greatest athletes get called names like that on social media. I know it's a stupid part of the territory, but it's a part of the territory of being a high profile athlete nonetheless, heckles and name calling like that have been a part of sports forever and have only increased as the internet became ingrained into our lives.

Raw talent Fournette is one of the most gifted athletes ever to play the game. That said, the pure drive of types like Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, Marshall Faulk, etc. is why they're in Canton. If Fournette had 50% of their mindset and work ethic he'd be on a similar track.

Some of these kids are so fricking soft, mentally. Parents, teachers, coaches all letting them slide on learning self-discipline and determination.
Just letting them get by on talent alone is doing these kids a disservice.

One of the least likable former tiger stars I can think of.

That's how Kayshon felt Sunday night.

I can only imagine how the Bama game affected him.

People will get butthurt about this but not a damn one of us hasn't thought about quitting something at 18 that was hard with adversity
The important thing is that he stayed and went on to be one of the greatest tigers ever

There are plenty more I could think of than Lenny. He’s pretty well liked by the fanbase.
