If you encounter a large cat or a bear on a trail…what exactly do you do? Let’s say the range is 50 yards or less.

Yes. If I'm alone in bear country I'm always making noise. If im with someone we are talking and making noises. If I'm coming up on a bend, corner, or blind spot I'm making noise.
Worst thing you can do is surprise a bear. Give it a chance to move along.
