Seems like I only hear about Barstool if someone posts a thread like this one about them being drama queens, or Portnoy is trending on twitter for acting like a huge f@g.

Barstool has some decent content at times, but it also seems like a high school.

They are sports adjacent. Nowadays it’s mostly gambling content since they are owned by a casino now. And even that content usually devolves into some level of personal barstool drama these days (rico). But if you’re looking for any kind of actual sports commentary then it’s not the place.
Previously their target demo was just the “Everyman” as a blog site with some relatable bloggers who made some funny content that grew a pretty fierce fanbase out of it. It’s always been a bit gossipy/dramatic with their internal team, it’s just been amplified massively now that it’s a multimillion dollar company spending out a frick ton of money looking for anything to bring eyeballs to their content and now the majority of the people involved has pretty much nothing interesting to offer besides these brief weeks of drama
Last few years you can see them targeting Zoomers heavily which has added fuel to all the office drama and other internet beefs

People in general just have too much free time on their hands these days. It's created a space for all these "content creators" to fill. 99.99999999999999% of them are garbage. And I'm only saying that because I'm hesitant to say 100%.

Whitlock lives off of being a contrarian, but this isn’t about him. I don’t follow Whitlock, listen to his show or care about him. I saw an article about the debate and that was the core of the message and it was a message I agreed with.

Whitlock and Dave are the same. They're both periodically in the right and knowingly in the wrong and they alternate intentionally to generate interest. It's probably how he knew his criticism could get to Dave (and candidly, it may apply to Whitlock too).
I'm sure it's true that hundreds of millions of dollars covers up quite a lot of emptiness, at least for a while. But shots like Whitlock's will always land in one way or the other because they're inescapably true for so many of these personality-driven guys.

Ok then, explain. Both make a career out of alternating between generating controversy and taking high road positions on the periphery of the sports world, and neither likely cares much about the topics they're talking about and they do it for money/professional advancement.

I think Jason Whitlock hit the nail on the head. Portnoy isn’t someone to be admired. He’s a loser with no morals or values. However, his style has a market because of how anti-masculine our society has become
The only Barstool content I consume is PMT, so I have no care in the company or Portnoy. Not saying he's the greatest dude in the world obviously, but he's clearly smarter than people that hate him like to think, and I also think he's probably not all that different from a shite ton of dudes who own companies are have celebrity status that people think are great with the only difference is Portnoy is pretty straight and direct and goes public with a lot of the shite he does or whatever, whereas those other celebrities just do their same shite privately.

He went to LSU briefly. if you were at bogies around 2009 and liked drugs, there is a good chance youd run into him.
