Also schedule your phone to send a text in the morning requesting a wake up call followed by a call to 911 should you not answer. Make sure you send it to someone reliable and who does not live in the same house as you.

Some of the newer models misread methane as smoke. How much chili are you putting down at dinner?

If you do buy new ones do yourself a favor and on the back with a sharpie write the month and the year that you installed it. They have a finite life. Dust and other things can cause them to act up.

They could be dirty, clean them with compressed air. They could also be bad. I had a similar issue so I just replaced them all throughout the house. My where are manufactured in 2010. $150 for your safety and sanity is pretty cheap.

It needs replaced. It’s either in the about to die phase or it is dead already depending how long you ignored it

I had the same problem, but it was the batteries. Make sure they are the exact #’s off of your old ones, and use the same brand.

I replaced all of mine a few years ago with Nest Protects. They have CO and smoke detection and the one in the kitchen can be silenced if I'm cooking something and it puts off a little smoke. No batteries to change and no middle of the night chirping. They've been great - highly recommended.

How often do smoke detectors actually SAVE people? Seems like you basically never see that reported. Yet we all religiously keep them operational, climbing up on ladders to change their batteries, and dealing with their annoying middle of the night chirping that inevitably occurs.

Dust on the sensor. Use canned air to clean it.

It's not really a smoke detector but one of those fancy Gaydars.

Some of them if you take them down and look at the back it will tell you what the chirps mean.Probably just a bad smoke detector. They do go bad periodically

Are they older than 10 years? If so, you should replace the detector, not just the battery

Disconnect and remove batteries. Hit the test button and then replace the batteries and hook back up. I have to do this with mine or they will continue to chirp.

Smoke detectors do have a life span. When they are broken or beyond their intended life they chirp.
You need to replace the detector

Could be dust or a spider.
