Anyone know why my smoke detectors continuously chirp? It’s only after 1 am, and it’s happened the last 4 nights, including tonight. I’ve changed the batteries in all of them. The last 3 nights it’s happened after a short power outage. Batteries are in correctly. I would reset them and then they’re fine. I took them out of the ceiling tonight and put them in the garage, I need some freaking sleep for once. Any help would be great.

I’ve reset them, but an hour later they’re chirping again. I’m losing my mind

This post is so confusing.

Is it chirping "continuously" or only after 1am?

Is it one doing it or multiple?

Does resetting them always work for a while?

Why did you put them in the garage instead of just taking the batteries out?

Go see what model number they are, and then look up the instruction manual online.

More than one doing the same thing? Have you read the damned instructions? They're trying to tell you something. Either there's something in the air or they were all installed the same day and have expired.

Only after 1 am and it doesn’t stop

All of them

Works for about an hour

I think they have an internal back up battery bc they still chirp when the main battery is out.

I feel like Phoebe in that episode of Friends with her smoke detector

How do they know what time it is? If they don't know the time, then could something be happening at 1am?

If it is also hardwired make sure it has not lost connection (loose wire). Hardwired with a battery can do that sometimes. Pressing the button can also reset some models.

Did you maybe reset them a couple hours earlier this time than you did the last 3 times?

Have you read the instructions yet?

Do you think they are about 10 years old?

Yea I read the instructions and I reset them several times like it said to do. Not sure of the age of them though.

Read the instructions again and see if it says anything about expiration. I had one that wouldn't stop beeping and the instructions clearly stated that it would start to beep constantly X years after it was first powered on. Time to throw them away and get new ones.

ETA: Either that or they're telling you that your air is fricked and you might die tonight.

Them? More than one? Are they interconnected? You may be looking at the wrong one. That's a different situation.

OP might just be an idiot. I was going to say either an idiot or extremely sleep-deprived, but then I realized that if he's sleep-deprived after having not solved his smoke detector issue after 4 fricking days then that falls under idiot.

True. 10-12 dollars per detector. I'd buy new and do one at a time or do them all and go to sleep.

I think you should put them in your vehicle tonight, get a good nights sleep, & tomorrow go buy more. Night night
