Has anyone seen any Rio 12ga. High Brass Game Loads? 1 1/4 ounce - 7.5,8, or 9 shot? Haven't found any in two years now. Going on a pheasant and chucker hunt this fall and starting to look now for ammo to bring.

I'm by far no expert on upland bird hunting, but we used to make an annual hunt for several years and the guys we hunted with in SD either used #4 or 5 for pheasant. Just some food for thought.

Rio Texas Game Load 12 Gauge Ammo 2 3/4" 1 1/4 oz #7.5 Shot 250 Rounds
I too suggest that you use #5 or #6 shot.

Thank you for the link. I have had 2 cases on order since 2020... And yes(i should have been more clear) we shoot 4-6 at pheasant but we like the sporting aspect of shooting 8-9 at chucker/grouse. That Rio load packs a helluva punch.

We shot the copper plated federal premium rounds at pheasant and very happy.

I concur, they are a great load. I know several guys that turkey hunt with them.

Call Van's in Brandon, MS. Ask for Jules. I've ordered plenty from him.

I think its going to depend on if you are hunting wild birds or not. I am guessing if you are on a combo pheasant and chuckar hunt, everything will be cage raised. If that is the case, small pellet sizes are no problem for those birds. Wild pheasants are usually a little tougher/stronger and will need a little more knock down power so I can certainly understand a larger pellet for those.

I like Rio shells a lot
me too, mainly because they are blue and I am red green color blind and it is hard for me to see a red spent shell in green grass, but a blue one stands out, makes it much easier to police my brass, they always go bang but I do find they are a little dirtier than others
I have also recently started using a 20 gauge as primary wing / clay gun, yellows are easy to spot, much lighter gun/shell bag and my shoulder enjoys it more

For wild birds you are going to need a larger shot than 7.5 for pheasants and chucker. The size of the shot will be determined partly by the type of hunting you will be doing. Hunting behind pointing dogs can be done with a slightly larger shot than push and block hunting.
I would suspect 5 or 6 shot will handle your needs.

Guys I've been doing this trip for more than 10 years. I appreciate the constructive criticism on what size I need shot to use. But we have it figured out. Thanks.
The Pheasant and Grouse are wild the chucker where brought in 20+ years ago and pen raised but now have a sustainable population in the area. Wild but not Wild Wild as they do feed them with stations around the farm. LOTS OF WALKING fence rows and cross cut fields. 6-10 miles a day usually.
