It's abhorrent that we live in a world where one fricking word can get you completely swept out of your life, ending your career. This guy's entire coaching life is over - just like that.

When anyone says "the N word", we all say it in our head or know the word. It's silly and a complete game.
This has now become the only recognized RELIGION in the USA - and is far more unforgiving than even Islam.
Lives can be totally destroyed by a single utterance - whether intentional or not - not mattering whether it is a joke, in the context of praise, or as an insult - not even mattering if it was made in ignorance.
PLUS - it is only Available for a certain sect of the population = the Grand Possessors of ALL PRIVILEGE in America today. For THEY are not held liable for their transgressions, nor their crimes, nor their individual incompetence. HOWEVER - there is a an 'atheist' element to that population so that the roles are completely REVERSED if they follow a certain political interest => THEN they are worse than the dreaded unwashed (by race) and cannot be praised regardless of their achievement, nor forgiven regardless of the triviality of their transgression. They suffer far worse than even the fundamental enemy of the 'chosen ones.'
This world is f'd beyond recognition. Our founders would pound their heads onto the rocks to witness what fruit their sacrifices and lifetime of dedicated effort has borne.

What a loser to even think this garbage, much less write it down.

Thread title is misleading. He wasn't fired. It's unknown if he would have been fired if he didn't resign.
I’m sure a guy who’s been there a couple of decades decided to quit less than a month before the season starts on his own.

If the word is so shameful and hurtful…..what’s going to happen to the player?
Gundy is also a bitch for apologizing. If the word is so offensive, as you stated, he should be condemning the disinterested player who forced him to look at it.

Insanity continues to take its toll.
Hopefully (in my lifetime) we will reach a point where this whole nonsensical era is looked back on with disgust and embarrassment.

We shouldn't live in a society where saying a word that's in thousands of song lyrics makes the populous think that you're such a bad person you shouldn't be allowed to make a living.

I am pretty sure Nono was making a joke based on his brother Mike Gundy's "I'm a man, I'm 40" blow-up years ago.
Then again, I suppose you could be calling Nono a loser because you thought it was a bad joke.

Player has an ipad.
Coach was reading song lyrics off iPad because…?
Did he think he was getting jiggy with it? Relatin’ wit da kidz?
Stupid on top of stupid. No way is this a fireable offense.
Must be more than this to the story.

Good. He's exploiting and making bank off kids that are taking scholarships from kids that really belong in a university.

I'm sure he had a choice. Resign or be fired. He chose to resign.

The Atlanta Hawks fired Danny Ferry for virtually the same thing. What’s more, they fired Ferry AFTER an in-house investigation determined he had done nothing wrong.

Is the word an anagram of the word "ginger"??
Posted on 8/8/22 at 10:58 am to AMac
It’s quite Orwellian how bad it’s become. A slur that should be considered in bad taste or possibly actionable depending the context now equates to an absolute zero tolerance regardless of the context.
So fricking stupid.
So fricking stupid.

That's right. And Mark Twain shouldn't have written it. That's why some school libraries in the US banned Huckleberry Finn.

He resigned. Probably means he got a nice buyout to make the problem go away.
Stupid that it was even an issue.

There has to be more to the story. Or he has some kind history. One mistake shouldn't cost him job. He's been there long enough to have a few mulligans.

All he had to do was self edit or have fellow coach DeMarco Murray read what was on the iPad.
He was reading it in real time, Groomer. He didn't read it, think about it for a little while and then proceed to reread it aloud to the team. And even if he did, he still would be right in doing so. He is reading the words that another player wrote, and this sensitivity to anyone saying that word out loud regardless of context is ridiculous. It's one thing if he says it as a disparaging remark, but this obviously is not the case.
You and your ilk are pussies.
