re: Should being allowed to vote on property tax issues be contingent on property ownership?

Did you use TOPS? Have you taken the child tax credit? Did you recieve stimulus checks?
I guess I'll put you down as a no, or you can tear up your voters registration

Renters pay property taxes too. Anyone who thinks rent isn't priced to account for taxes and insurance is in denial.
Imagine if all renters were given a breakdown of the apportionment of their rent so it showed how much property tax they were paying. And they were then allowed to deduct those property taxes like homeowners can.
And remember technically they pay more because there’s no homestead exemption for them.

Make all taxes a sales tax, a consumption tax. Everyone gets to pay their 'fair' share. Then people will truly wake up.
Also a citizen should have to 33 years of age to vote.

Maybe NOLA has changed, but I thought you'd heard the spiel that accompanied so many votes for millages:
Vote for this millage, it will only afftect those who pay property taxes.
And remember you won't pay property tax if your exemption makes your property worth zero.

This is a great idea if you want to pay more taxes

I'm proposing removing all property taxes and replacing that lost revenue with an increase in sales taxes.

I understand. My point still stands

Should proof of a positive tax burden be a prerequisite for voting on anything in general in this country?
No taxation without representation was the slogan. Not we demand representation without taxation.
They’re not the same thing.

1. Just because the government relieves you of the burden doesn't mean you aren't subject to taxation.
2. Are we adding up all taxes or are we picking and choosing based on your subjective criteria?

He shouldn’t be allowed to vote because his pay comes from taxes.
No qualms here.
And you can regain your ability to vote by remaining off welfare for 2 years.
Also, I will give leeway on things like the stimulus checks. No one voted for those. Could you even opt out of those?

People who don’t own property still pay those taxes. Do you think landlords charge rent rate at only mortgage/maintenance costs? Taxes are built into the rent, everyone pays it.

No one is stopping you from sending that money back.

That is not the way it works and I have been bitching about that for years.

Scruffy, you’re typically a poster of good takes.
However, this is a really bad take.

Lets take it further. Democrats shouldn't be able to buy votes from people who dont have income.

107 million people pay no income tax
quote:
Using adjusted Internal Revenue Service (IRS) data to include households that do not file tax returns and fewer filing households paying income tax, we arrive at a preliminary estimate of 61.1 percent of households not paying income tax in 2020, which is close to TPC’s model estimate.
The large portion of households paying no income tax illustrates that the U.S. income tax system is quite progressive, and that the tax system is increasingly being used to provide social benefits to households.
