That doesn't mean you pay 22% overall if your income is in that window. Tax brackets are progressive and only applied to each one's respective salary range. You technically would need to be a decent amount over 178k to actually pay 22% of your income in taxes. Even more so factoring in deductions.

Sorry it was James Madison, another founding father.

quote:

The right of suffrage is a fundamental Article in Republican Constitutions. The regulation of it is, at the same time, a task of peculiar delicacy. Allow the right [to vote] exclusively to property [owners], and the rights of persons may be oppressed... . Extend it equally to all, and the rights of property [owners] ...may be overruled by a majority without property....

If you can't see that there is at least some nuance here, then there's no point in having the discussion.

It says that there is nuance here, it's not a "hurr derr you're dumb if you disagree with me" topic like you are acting like it is.

Should being allowed to vote on public school boards be contingent on having kids in public school?

Argue for it be harder to register to vote. We should all have to physically go sign up to vote at registrars office periodically. You can win politically with this position.
Drive through, convenient registration is the root of the problem….because many of the registrations are fake…

Because maybe I would like to eventually send my kid to the local school and I want some say in the direction the school system is going?

Of course they are, but most can never make the connection between voting for the property tax du jour and increases in their rent.

So you think most renters are idiots?

If the local school district is a shitshow, it's not going to magically change by putting different people on the school board.

Not only that, but you should not be allowed to vote at all unless you pay property taxes and your share of the vote should be proportional to your property taxes.

Sure that direct situation does. As someone sending my kid to private school, I don't give a shite who is on the public school board. Now, it's bit different in that my tax dollars pay to support public schools in this area, so I do have somewhat of a stake, but I'm also not of the opinion that the school board decisions are going to make one matter of difference in the direction of the schools here (that mostly has to do with the kids going to the schools and their parents).

I mean if I'm paying rent, I'm paying property tax for someone else.

You couldn't just settle on having a bad take, you had to ratchet that up to putting it on the Mt. Rushmore of bad takes.

Renters just beat out homeowners in a landslide.
