New Comiskey as built

This distinction is appreciated.

When it opened, it was a sterile, uninviting building; the complete opposite of the aura and charm Old Comiskey had.

The renovations and enhancements over the last 15-20 years have turned it into a really nice ballpark though.

Here's a shocker: Houston Astros

-They moved from the iconic Astrodome
-They moved into a smaller location that has provided a losing record in the WS, because the team from the other League is often good at hitting HRs, which a shorter field creates a disadvantage.
-They moved into a place called Enron Field.

It's literally 5 miles from the Pitt Campus.

That's not a hike.

Atlanta replacing both their football and baseball stadiums in a relatively short amount of time still blows my mind.

There were perfectly valid reasons why the Braves left downtown. They wanted to be closer to their STH base, they wanted to own their stadium instead of leasing like they did w/Turner Field so that they could have all of their revenue, which they bring in in spades between game crowds and The Battery, and another reason was b/c the City of Atlanta never improved the neighborhood surrounding Turner Field, Summerhill, in the 50 years that they occupied that block, after numerous promises by the City to do so. It took the Braves leaving and Georgia State moving into Turner Field before Summerhill was finally improved, and boy is it ever. It's completely done a 180.

And moving has obviously worked. The Battery is always packed, Truist is sold out Or close to sold out most nights, the Braves are 2nd in baseball in attendance. They are printing $$$ at the Battery/Truist

Now as for the Georgia Dome(RIP), there was no good reason to tear it down except Blank wanted a SB and the only way to get one was to build a new stadium and alas, you have MBS built literally 2 feet beside the GA.Dome. The Dome was a perfectly good facility.

It's a beautiful facility, though. A cathedral.

I believe you may be the only person on earth who believes the Astros move to a new stadium was a bad idea. Minute Maid is now 22 years old and does not feel the least bit dated. It initiated a complete revival of downtown Houston and is one of the best places in MLB to enjoy a game.

Braves got it right.

Yep, the majority of their fans are on the north side of the metro and the Battery is awesome. Nice to go to a Braves game that ends at night and not having to worry about getting murdered.

Haven't seen it in person. I looks like a big country & western bar on the outside. Like a 2020's Gilley's. Is the entrance worse looking, or better looking than other parts from the outside?

The inside doesn't look bad.

I loved The Ballpark. Had season tickets seven rows up under the home run porch when it opened. You know, the season we were supposed to get caps with the All Star game logo at the season ender against Seattle.

ETA:
In case people are wondering why we didn't get caps for the next season's all star game, there was a strike or a lock out that during that season. Owner and players held their ground, and just didn't play until the next season.

I agree with several that were mentioned:

New Comisky when Camden completely changed the game.

FedEx is a soulless sterile nothing in the suburbs. Downgrade from the location of RFK.

Levi's looks bad and is 40 miles from SF.

New Yankee Stadium also soulless. Replacing the most storied ballpark in MLB with that was a crime.

The 49ers far and away are the winners of this topic of the teams still playing in their existing mistake.

Levi’s Stadium is terrible. Terrible stadium, extremely terrible location, and an hour away from their home city. With the Raiders moving to Vegas, the move to the office complex sprawl of northern Santa Clara is now an even larger colossal mistake as they placed themselves at one polar end of a one NFL team metroplex. The former location is far more central and accessible. They also changed the ticket buying fan base and atmosphere with the move.

The Cowboys built Jerry World East and West, nearly every other stadium in the US is built North/South. So every time we have a 3:30 pm home game by the third qtr you have the sun shinning through the giant windows onto the field. It has had an effect on several games.

They wanted to build it north-south, but couldn’t because of the prevailing wind patterns of the area. It would be a wind tunnel if aligned N-S with the current stadium design.

There are many stadiums not N-S. For example of the old Pac-8 schools, Husky Stadium, Autzen Stadium, Martin Stadium, and LA Memorial Coliseum are all E-W, while Reser Stadium, Stanford Stadium, and Cal Memorial are set NW-SE. Only the Rose Bowl is N-S of those 8 schools.

I toured Levi’s when it was still new. I can appreciate the effort to not make it some massive structure like Jerry World, Atlanta Butthole, SoFi, and every other new one that looks the same.

With that said, making it look skeletal wasn’t exactly a win. They kept hyping up the fact that rainwater maintained the gardens on the roof, and trickled down through natural drains for other functions. They also championed its WiFi.

I have never hated a stadium more than Levi's. There is nothing enjoyable about the experience. Would rather watch Niner games on the road because there's at least atmosphere.

I have. It looks like a huge furniture store. I get you need AC because I've sat through games in Aug at the old one but I can say its a cheaper version of Minute Maid park.

Not a shocker, just a plain stupid take.

A lot of this is because of the on-field product. You couldn't get a ticket to a Falcons game during their 3-4 year run of being good, now its cheaper to buy tickets for the exact same seats on the secondhand market than it is to be a season ticketholder. Atlanta sports fans are fickle as hell. Hawks games are another example of this as well.

I think they should build all new major league fields in the suburbs so they are closer to where all the fans actually live and you don’t have to tip a homeless guy to not break int your car.
